Andrew Zawie’s Paper

For the American People

There is no question that the topic of American politics has been at the forefront of several citizen’s minds due to the recent presidential election.  I have expressed far more interest in this past year’s election because it was quite possibly one of the most critical in recent history.  As our whole country listened to both presidential candidate’s speeches and rants about their competitor, we all began to cement our vote for one of them.  Regardless of who won, the American population had to realize that the winner would do what is best for the country.  The results of the election led to an incredibly evident split amongst our country.  With Donald Trump winning the election many people, in my opinion, have not given him a fair chance at making this country better.

Donald Trump is one of the most successful business men to walk the earth today. He has accumulated enough money to never work another day in his life and give more than enough money to his family and friends.  But if he has already succeeded so well, why would he try and become the President of the United States, arguably the hardest job in the world.  I believe that Donald Trump has invested his time and money during the election to make the country a better place.  He would not have gone through the headaches if he did not truly believe he could make America great again.

President Trump, being elected less than a few months ago, has been completely misunderstood.  He is not a dictator, that is why we have checks and balances.  Many people believe he is waging a war on religion, after he has said numerous times it is not about a single religion but keeping American people safe during a time when numerous terrorist attacks have taken place on American soil.  An early executive order made by President Trump put a 90-day travel ban on individuals from the following countries: Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Sudan.  This order was taken as an attack on Muslims but in real terms it is everyone from that region not just Muslims.  Those countries were also identified by the Obama administration as the countries that pose the greatest threat to the United States.  Trump instituting the removal of illegal immigrants was not a move for him to tear families apart from one another, but a way to regulate who is in the United States legally.  The argument that he should let illegal immigrants stay in this country is baffling; he has no problem with any race or religion becoming United States citizens if it is accomplished legally. While some of the population believe that Donald Trump is anti-gay, he has said several times that he does not oppose same-sex marriage but that he respects whatever the Supreme Court will put into law.

As a country, even though at this point divided, we need to come together and support President Trump.  Cheering for the President of the United Sates to fail is essentially cheering for the pilot of the plane you are on to crash into a mountain.  Although you may have wanted it done a different way, you still want the best for yourself and everyone around you.  Regardless of who is the President, why would an American citizen not want their country to succeed?  I believe that President Trump and his appointed cabinet will do whatever they can so that this country is in a better state than its recent past.  But first we the People need to get on the same page so that our leaders can protect and serve for the American People.
