Badge #4 Differentiation

Student Led Lesson on Video in Education use of differentiation.

  1. The student led lesson was carefully designed to include as many opportunities to include students and their professional backgrounds. The pre-assessment was planned to help determine their knowledge base and their experience with video use in their jobs. We tried to motivate students in the pre-assessment by being creative with the selfie pictures and our short video.
  2. Breaking up the class into Screen Shot 2015-07-27 at 4.30.28 PMfor their profession was a successful way to allow collaboration for the discussions and review questions.
  3. We also had a whole group discussion at the end to allow new ideas to be generated across the groups.
  4. The use of video, slides, small and large group discussions gave a variety of learning strategies for everyone.

Micro-teaching lesson use of differentiation.

1.  We developed a survey that asked students’ knowledge about the ARIS app in order to know how to proceed with planning.

2.  Asking students to think about applications for their professional use of the app helped to differentiate the lesson for particular needs.

Reflection: Differentiation was somewhat of a new topic for me.  With such a diverse set of classmates from different professions made it important to address the topics for each interests and usage.  I really benefited from thinking about planning in this manner.  I am not sure if there should have been other ways of differentiating the lessons such as learner type, comfort levels of technology…  Screen Shot 2015-08-03 at 11.51.07 AM
