In order to increase my global awareness, I became a facilitator of the English Conversation Program. Through this program, I organize cross cultural interactions amongst a diverse group of people. During my first semester at Ohio State, I was enrolled in a Cultural Anthropology course. In the class, I examined different cultures throughout the world and learned to approach analyzing them in an anthropological sense. I plan on continuing to take more Anthropology classes in the future to further my world view.
To achieve the goal of original inquiry, I have involved myself in the Psychology Department’s Research Experience Program. Not only have I been able to further understand Psychology labs and researchers, but I was able to see participant interactions as well. I hope to gain further experience during my time at OSU by conducting anthropological research in China. By taking Mandarin Chinese courses and continuing to expand my knowledge of anthropological proceedings, I will prepare to conduct my research abroad.
By continuing my involvement with the English Conversation Program, I hope to increase my academic enrichment. This will allow me to practice my Mandarin Chinese skills outside of a classroom setting. In the future, I plan on going on a mission’s trip to other countries to put my current Major of studies, International Relations and Diplomacy, into practice. This field work experience will be quite beneficial in the long run.
During my first semester of OSU, I searched for opportunities that would help me develop my leadership skills. I became an English Conversation Program facilitator and became heavily involved in AIESEC’s Ohio State marketing team. I have also been undergoing Young Life’s First Year Leadership Training Program throughout the past semester. By April, I hope to be placed at a local high school in Columbus, where I will serve as a leader and work in ministry.
I engage in service opportunities because I thoroughly enjoy doing so. I am currently lobbying for Buckeyethon, which raises money and awareness for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This summer, I will also be spending a month volunteering at a Young Life camp. With the 2016 Presidential election approaching, I hope to work locally to support my candidate’s presence in the great swing state of Ohio.
