In order to increase my global awareness, I became a facilitator of the English Conversation Program. Through this program, I organize cross cultural interactions among a diverse group of students. During my time at Ohio State, I have taken multiple classes that are internationally focused. My favorite was Strategies for War and Peace, which included an interactive world game. In this game, I was apart of the Israel group and realized how little I knew about the state. In addition, I have continued to study Chinese and plan on taking a Conversational Cantonese course next year. Next summer, I will be studying abroad in Perugia, Italy to analyze and research the international community from the European point of view.
To achieve the goal of original inquiry, I have begun working as a Constituent Aide to State Representative Jonathan Dever. In this position, I conduct constituent outreach, as well as legislative research and analysis. I have learned a great deal from the Ohio House of Representatives, and will be taking my experience to Washington, D.C. with the Washington Academic Internship Program this summer as an intern for Senator Rob Portman.
My Honors Contract clearly demonstrates my academic enrichment, and pursuit of post-collegiate success. I am double majoring in International Relations and Diplomacy, and Chinese. Additionally, I was selected to participate in the Washington Academic Internship Program through the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. This fast paced, academically and professionally focused endeavor will allow me to intern in D.C. and gain credit toward a Public Policy minor. I am unsure as what I want to do post graduation. However, I am hoping my time in D.C. will provide me with clarity as to the different options available.
By being an active participant in the Panhellenic and Greeklife community, I am developing my leadership skills. I am currently the Philanthropy Coordinator for Alpha Gamma Delta, a responsibility that has challenged my planning, organization, and team work skills. Further, I have been selected to be a Recruitment Guide for the upcoming year and will be taking a leadership focused course this fall in preparation. I also am planning on being a team leader for Relay for Life this year, and being a Facilitator for English Conversation Program.
I engage in service opportunities because I thoroughly enjoy doing them. Throughout the year, I lobby for Buckeyethon, which raises money and awareness for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I will also be leading a Relay for Life team and volunteering at Race for Hope, a colon cancer awareness run. This past semester, I organized a trunk show, which raised $610 for colon cancer research and awareness. I also planned and executed a nachos fundraiser from 2pm to 2am, which raised $2,960 for diabetes research and awareness. As my sorority’s Philanthropy Coordinator, I am constantly seeking opportunities, such as food donation programs and soup kitchens, for our members and myself to get involved in. This fall, I am planning Downdogs for Diabetes, which is a yoga fundraiser, and a kickball tournament in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club.
