G.O.A.L.S.
In order to increase my global awareness, I became a facilitator of the English Conversation Program. Through this program, I organize cross cultural interactions amongst a diverse group of people. During my first semester at Ohio State, I was enrolled in a Cultural Anthropology course. In the class, I examined different cultures throughout the world and learned to approach analyzing them in an anthropological sense. I plan on continuing to take more Anthropology classes in the future to further my world view.
To achieve the goal of original inquiry, I have involved myself in the Psychology Department’s Research Experience Program. Not only have I been able to further understand Psychology labs and researchers, but I was able to see participant interactions as well. I hope to gain further experience during my time at OSU by conducting anthropological research in China. By taking Mandarin Chinese courses and continuing to expand my knowledge of anthropological proceedings, I will prepare to conduct my research abroad.
By continuing my involvement with the English Conversation Program, I hope to increase my academic enrichment. This will allow me to practice my Mandarin Chinese skills outside of a classroom setting. In the future, I plan on going on a mission’s trip to other countries to put my current Major of studies, International Relations and Diplomacy, into practice. This field work experience will be quite beneficial in the long run.
During my first semester of OSU, I searched for opportunities that would help me develop my leadership skills. I became an English Conversation Program facilitator and became heavily involved in AIESEC’s Ohio State marketing team. I have also been undergoing Young Life’s First Year Leadership Training Program throughout the past semester. By April, I hope to be placed at a local high school in Columbus, where I will serve as a leader and work in ministry.
I engage in service opportunities because I thoroughly enjoy doing so. I am currently lobbying for Buckeyethon, which raises money and awareness for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This summer, I will also be spending a month volunteering at a Young Life camp. With the 2016 Presidential election approaching, I hope to work locally to support my candidate’s presence in the great swing state of Ohio.

Camel Bone Necklace // Trip To China
In the Spring of 2014, I purchased this camel bone necklace in Guangzhou, China. I wear it everyday as a reminder of how much I love that country and the friends I made there. It brings back beautiful memories of interacting with elementary school students, Pearl River cruises, market explorations, and dances at the top of the Guangzhou Tower. The token is simple, yet so meaningful. While abroad on this trip, I decided officially that I would pursue a career in International Relations and Diplomacy.
About Me
Hello! My name is Nikki Tecco and I’m probably going to get lost on campus a lot. Whereas maps aren’t my strong suit, my drive to get involved is. This past spring, I earned the title of Medina County Female Student of the Year for all of my community and school involvement. In college, I hope to continue to seize every opportunity that I come across. At my high school in Medina, Ohio, I really enjoyed devoting my time to a multitude of activities and clubs. I was President of Student Council, President of the National Honor Society, Vice President of the senior class, Vice President of DARE Role Models, a Peer Leader, and Captain of the Varsity volleyball team. I am extremely organized so I took pride in planning successful charity and school events through every club I was a part of. Some of my favorites include a Powder Puff football game that raised proceeds for an alum, who was battling Leukemia, and the yearly Volley for the Cure volleyball matches, which raised funds for breast cancer awareness. I also worked as the Editor of our yearbook and am highly anticipating the release of the book, for which we spent long hours compiling. At OSU, I hope to continue my journalism career by involving myself with The Lantern.
During my junior year of high school, after more than four years of studying Mandarin Chinese, I made a decision that helped me choose my Major. I boarded a plane for the first time in my life and flew to Guangzhou, China with a group of 13 other students. We lived there for a week with host families and it was an incredible experience. I attended classes at Nanwu High School, met with elementary school students, advised English teachers, and truly dove into the entire culture. The next week was spent in Beijing, where we passed by the American embassy, and I finally knew what I wanted to do with my life. I decided to pursue an education in International Relations and Chinese, with a focus on Diplomacy. I still keep in touch with my friends in Guangzhou and can’t wait to update them on my academic progress at OSU.
One of my biggest passions is for a program called YoungLife, which is composed of weekly Bible studies as well as fun activities like paint wars. Last summer, I attended a week long camp, where I finally decided to pursue a relationship with God. Since then, I’ve become so involved in the organization that I can’t imagine not continuing with it. I plan on working to become a YoungLife leader, adults who serve as mentors to high school students and help guide them on their journeys with Christ, and am so excited to do so.
