Design-Advanced R&D Energy Analysis

The link above contains the energy analysis data from an excel sheet used to calculate results for this portion of the lab.

The energy analysis AR&D designed to calculate the friction force and the net force of the AEV. The tests take into account the number of marks traveled and if there were any errors in the tracking system. There were 81 mark errors in our testing and this could be due to the fact that the AEV design is a direct drive and not driven by propellers. Our net force also seemed to be much lower than other teams AEV designs, this may be due to the excel formula sheet being designated for propeller-driven AEVS.

Figure 1: Distance (m) over time (s)

In figure 1 it can be observed that it had similar results to the AR&D battery tests. At the end of the test run, there is a point where time increases and distance remains constant. This is due to the bulkiness of the AEV and needing time to slow down to come to a complete stop.

Figure 2: Velocity(m/s) over time (s)

In figure 2, one could detect interesting results as the velocity seems to have an oscillation to it, this is most likely due to increased friction forced on the AEV’s wheel system and causing it to slow down. It could also be due to a reflectance sensor error that is recording the data constantly.
