Team Reflection

As we began the product ideation phase, we considered a few factors we felt represented the problem best. We narrowed it down to ease of use, time to complete tasks, and overall feasibility and use. These factors led us to the prototype blueprints we’ve published on a separate page.

They were:

“Swiss-Army Knife” Style Magnetic Arm

  • As shown in the drawing, there will be an arm extension that has magnetic modules that easily attach and detach from the arm. It will have a knife, spatula, platform to hold items, and more extensions that will support kitchen tasks.

“Non-Slippery Modular Memory Foam Cutting Board 5000”

  • This cutting board, as the name suggests its going to be versatile in terms of uses for it. The first one being that it has a non-slippery surface wich will be useful at the moment of chopping ingredients. Since it is not slippery, it can also be placed in the sink and at the moment of doing the dishes, they will stay in place. In case people are chopping round or bigger things, the boards memory foam properties wil give some extra stability by taking the shape of the object that its placed on top of it. The board will come with extra utensils (grater, peeler, etc.) that can be attached like modules to the board so they are firm and steady and can be used easily. Thanks to the flexible material the board is made of, it can be rolled and stored easily.

“Smart Sink”

  • Our initial issue was figuring out a way to allow amputees to turn sinks off and on while they have their hands full. To address this issue, the smart sink has motion sensors underneath the sink cabinets to allow them to turn on the sink with their foot. The touchable faucet would then allow them to turn the sink off without having to reach and turn the handle or knob.
