Backwards Looking Summary
Situation
In Lab 3, the team individually brainstormed ideas for the AEV and then picked a design to begin work on. In the individual brainstorm session, the group members took into account that the AEV needed adequate space and functionality, as well as aesthetics. In the group design stage, these necessary components were ranked and a preliminary design was chosen. This design was of the Winnebago from the movie Spaceballs and was created by Quinton Langhals. Several features included rotating wings and gearing the motors.
Results and Analysis
Each design was very different in terms of what each team member found important. Some were sleek and small in design, others were more about the aesthetic. A few of the designs would not have space to hold the Arduino or the battery, so if they were used they would have to be rethought out. Most of the designs implemented the idea of rotating the wings around, so that will be incorporated into the final design. The team’s AEV will be 3D printed, but there is a possibility that the team will invest in different propellers.
Takeaways
From lab 3, the team learned what features they wanted to add to the final design. The team also learned about the teamwork process. Everyone in the group presented their ideas and gave their feedback on them. The team chose a design and edited it to have the aspects that they determined to be important.
Forwards Looking Summary
Situation
In lab this week, the team will be doing a performance analysis of the Advanced Energy Vehicle. The group will be working on data conversions, such as converting EEProm into physical parameters of time, current, and voltage. Then the data will be analyzed by calculating power, incremental energy, and total energy.
The group will create and utilize a design analysis tool to increase productivity in the performance of the test phase of the project. The project will be in the design cycle consisting of meeting four performance tests throughout the project. The team will continue to work with Arduino functions as well as MATLAB functions.
Weekly Goals and Schedule
The team will start to look ahead at the Preliminary Design Report and presentation and continue updating the team website. A more exact schedule of the work needed for the semester will be drafted.
