Tea is one of the most consumed beverages worldwide. It is such a simple drink but can work wonders in various ways. It will be interesting to find out how the tea leaves get from the plantation to the cups we drink from and everything in between. The reason why we chose tea was to further our knowledge about a drink we all love.
The six commodity chain activities that we will focus on include: extraction of raw materials, the manufacturing process, transportation of the processed tea, how and where the processed tea is purchased by tea brokers, delivery of the purchased product and who the end consumers are and where the highest consumption of tea occurs in the world.
The commodity chain for tea begins at tea plantations and the areas that we have decided to concentrate on are China, India and Sri Lanka as they are the 3 main tea producing countries in the world.
The members in our group include Sheila, Stefanie and Chandler. Each member of the group will research one of the 3 countries that export tea and the commodity chain for each of them. We will utilize a map to show the locations of the tea producing countries and the commodity chain activity locations for each of the 3 countries. Each member of the group will discuss social or environmental issues and impacts of the commodity chain activities that pertain to each of the countries. All of this information will be compiled and presented on this website.
