Constructivism

constructivism focuses on students' building of knowledge “Constructivists believe that knowledge is formed within the learner by integrating learning activities and experiences into knowledge and beliefs” (Torre et al. 2006). Each person has a different interpretation and construction of knowledge process, based on past experiences and cultural factors. Individuals construct themselves in reflexive interaction with their environment; constructing meaning from experience; “the philosophical and scientific position that knowledge arises through a process of active construction.” (Bruner, Belanger, Mascolol & Fischer, Vgotsky,). Teachers facilitate constructivism by adapting their teaching style, approach, and content to the specific developmental stage of the learner and the construction of their own knowledge.
