The University Libraries Teaching & Learning department has developed several on-demand, asynchronous information literacy workshops (or modules). These workshops are available to all Ohio State faculty, staff, and graduate students who are interested in learning more about teaching information literacy concepts and skills. Workshops are accessed through CarmenCanvas and are intended to take between 30 minutes and 90 minutes to complete.
Workshops Overview
There are two categories of workshops: Information Literacy Concepts and Pedagogies and Teaching Strategies.
Information Literacy Concepts Workshops
The workshops in this category describe core information literacy concepts from the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education (ACRL, 2016) and provide guidance and resources for teaching each concept. The estimated time to complete each workshop is provided.
Available workshops include:
- Teaching Information Literacy: Foundations (90 minutes)
- Authority is Constructed and Contextual (30 minutes)
- Information Creation as a Process (30 minutes)
- Information Has Value (30 minutes)
- Research as Inquiry (30 minutes)
- Scholarship as Conversation (30 minutes)
- Searching as Strategic Exploration (30 minutes)
Pedagogies and Teaching Strategies Workshops
The workshops in this category outline different pedagogical strategies and models and show how they can be used to support the teaching of information literacy. Or, they focus on a specific type of learning bottleneck related to information literacy and provide strategies for helping students to overcome the bottleneck.
- Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT) and Information Literacy (1 hour)
- Decoding the Disciplines and Information Literacy (1 hour)
- Teaching Lateral Reading (30 minutes)

Teaching Information Literacy Endorsement
For eligible participants, completion of on-demand workshops can count as credit toward the Teaching Information Literacy endorsement from the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning. To earn credit for completing the workshop, you must submit the reflection at the end of the workshop. Participants are required to track their completed workshops to apply for the endorsement. To do so, use the following form: Information Literacy Workshop Participation.
Completion of on-demand workshops can be combined with completion of live virtual workshops to earn the required hours to complete the endorsement.
For questions about the Teaching Information Literacy endorsement, contact Jane Hammons (hammons.73@osu.edu).
