Teaching Information Literacy Workshops

Teaching Information Literacy workshops are available to all faculty, instructors, librarians, graduate teaching associates, and staff at Ohio State. Note: You do not have to apply, or plan to apply, for the Teaching Information Literacy Endorsement to attend or enroll in any of the workshops.

Workshops are offered in two forms: live (synchronous via Zoom) and on-demand (asynchronous via CarmenCanvas).

Live Workshops

Synchronous virtual workshops (via Zoom) are offered several times each year. Workshops are intended to provide an overview of information literacy-related topics and practical strategies for incorporating information literacy into courses. The next workshop series will be offered beginning August 2024.

On-Demand Workshops

Multiple asynchronous, on-demand workshops are available through CarmenCanvas. Workshops are intended to take between 30 minutes and 90 minutes to complete, depending on the workshop selected.

Teaching Information Literacy Endorsement (Workshop Option)

Participants can earn the Teaching Information Literacy Endorsement from the Drake Institute by completing a combination of live and on-demand workshops, scheduling a consultation with the endorsement facilitator, and submitting an Information Literacy Action Plan. Interested participants are required to track their own workshop attendance/completion.

To complete the endorsement:

  1. Indicate your interest in completing the endorsement through the workshop option by emailing Jane Hammons (hammons.73@osu.edu).
  2. Attend or complete at least eleven (11) hours of information literacy workshops. Workshops can be a combination of live Virtual Workshops and On-Demand Workshops (via CarmenCanvas).
  3. For on-demand workshops, submit the reflection at the end of the workshop. For live workshops, participants are encouraged to complete a workshop reflection using the following: Workshop Reflection Template. Completion of a reflection for each workshop attended will support your ability to develop your Information Literacy Action Plan and to submit the required endorsement reflection from the Drake Institute.
  4. Track your workshop participation using the following form: Information Literacy Workshop Participation.
  5. After completing at least 11 hours of workshops, schedule a brief consultation with the endorsement facilitator (hammons.73@osu.edu).
  6. Complete and submit the Information Literacy Action Plan (Workshop Option) to the course facilitator (hammons.73@osu.edu).

After submitting the Information Literacy Action Plan, participants can apply for the endorsement through the Drake Institute website: Teaching Endorsements. You will need to submit responses to two competency based questions and one reflection question. You can review the questions and criteria here (in the Curriculum and Course Development section): Questions and Response Criteria. You are also encouraged to review the recommendations for completing the response.
