Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I would definitely like to study abroad at some point in my academic career. I think it is a great way to experience other cultures in a way that makes it clear how parts of the world are different from each other. I would like to study in London or Dublin because I went to both of those places on a trip with my mom that was very special to me, and I loved both cities. I would also be interested in doing service abroad, maybe through the service organization, Mundo, because I think it is a great way to really connect with other cultures.

Original Inquiry: If it is possible, I would like to do some individual research as an Undergraduate. I think finding something you know you enjoy to apply to what you are studying makes the whole experience more enriching. It also helps promote creativity and helps make you more knowledgeable in your area of study.

Academic Enrichment: I’d like to continue taking as many honors-level courses as I can so I can continue to challenge myself more and more. I would also like to take some electives in other areas of study to broaden my knowledge and learn as much as possible. I chose originally to be a Mathematics major because I love math and analytical thinking, and I decided to switch to Economics because I still enjoy math based subjects, but want to be more applied with it to better prepare me for the future. However, I am still very excited to take some Psychology classes and classes about ancient Rome and mythology, as well as completing a minor in International Studies (with a specialization in Globalization), because those topics are equally interesting and enjoyable to me.

Leadership Development: I plan on developing leadership skills in the extracurricular activities that I do. Freshman year I was in University Band, but I would also like to join some political groups and service groups. I am most interested in the College Democrats and Mundo, but I am looking for plenty more to do!

Service Engagement: I plan on joining some service organizations here at Ohio State. I did a lot of volunteer work in high school, and I found it very rewarding. I would like to join a student organization that focuses in volunteering for the community because I think it is a great way to connect with people, especially if you are not from the area like me. I also am interested in the Semester of Service program.
