Year In Review 18-19

This school year I’ve learned a lot about what it means to be a leader. I started off this school year in 2 leadership positions, Event Director of Asian Business Students Association, and Vice President of Marketing of International Business Club. However, I relinquished my position in International Business Club at the start of the year because of what I believed to be poor leadership. This was my first lesson in leadership, I learned that poor leadership can lead to abandonment. My next lesson came through the Asian Business Students Association. I was put in charge of directing events. I don’t think there was a single event that went off without a problem, however each event ended in a great success and enjoyment to those around me. The lesson that I learned here was that as a leader there are so many things that I’m responsible for even if I don’t realize it, and through proper leadership I can overcome any obstacle. The last big lesson that I learned was during my time in the Ohio Export Internship Program as the Project Leader. Before this time, I had never really experience people just not doing their work. There were many times during my time as Project Lead where members would not respond to me, or make excuses as to why they didn’t do work. This became increasingly frustrating to me, and eventually deteriorated my physical health. I tried every technique I could think of. I tried one-on-one talks, listening to their troubles to make sure there were no outside reasons, and other techniques. However, it didn’t work. The lesson I realized is that people have to want to be lead. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink from it.

First Semester GPA

This picture, while simple, is one of the only things that I feel accurately portrays my first semester. The number 4.0 is just a dream to many who attend school. As I was entering OSU I was constantly reminded that it wouldn’t be like high school, that there would be tons of people just like me, that it would be okay to have Bs. However, I didn’t want to hear it, instead I worked harder than I had ever worked before, and this simple number is my most proud accomplishment from my first semester.
