Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc.

For the global awareness portion, I am planning on getting involved with the various Indian Association clubs that are held on campus. I want to try to learn more about my culture through the various events and celebrations of various holidays and competitions. I am planning on getting involved with the Indian Association by applying to be a liaison for the buckeye mela dance competition. I want to try and get to know other students from other universities that will be competing in this competition, while learning more about my culture through dance and music.

  • Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.

I want to try to get involved with research throughout my college experience. I will try to email various professors and try to find opportunities at the medical center. I am very interested in conducting research and want to try to find something in the medical or chemical field of research. Before conducting the research, I will try to get involved with some already ongoing project to help further the progression there. If there is no opportunity for me to join in on a project, then I will try to make an inquiry and find a solution to this inquiry.

  • Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.

I want to take some upper-level classes in some of the science classes to try and further my understanding and knowledge about various biochemical processes. I will be taking an advanced course load by pursuing a major in biochemistry and a minor in psychology. During this time, I will also be pursuing a bachelors in science for my biochemistry major. These rigorous avenues of study will be of great challenge and I will be taking advanced level chemistry and biochemistry classes. In addition to the classes related to my major and minor, I will want to try and find other high level classes offered at The Ohio State University. I have found an interest in music and other art related classes, and would be interested in taking a high level class on music, theater or photography.

  • Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.

During my time at The Ohio State University, I will want to try and become a TA and help other students learn a subject that I am very passionate about. Along with becoming a TA, I will want to try and help all those in my classes by helping them with work and understanding skills and concepts in our classes. In the future, I will want to try and join the healthcare field and help others in my society.

  • Service Engagement: Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.

During my time at The Ohio State University, I will want to volunteer my time at various organizations in and around the Columbus area. Currently, I am working on volunteering my time at Grant Medical Center. In addition to volunteering my time here, during the spring semester of 2020, I will try to apply to other volunteer-based organizations on campus to see how I can work with others towards a common goal. Whether it be volunteering at a medical center, a food bank, or even a homeless shelter, I will want to somehow find a way to volunteer my time to help those less fortunate than me.

About Me

I am Neal Taliwal, I intend on being a biochemistry major and a psychology minor, and I am going on the pre-medical path. I am from Akron, Ohio and attended Hawken high school.
