Artifacts

This spring, I was stuck without much to do considering COVID-19 and its quarantine laws. I decided to open my own investment portfolio in order to see if it was something I was interested in and to see if I could make some money as well. I taught the how to trade and invest, and I learned many valuable lessons throughout the summer into the beginning of the first semester.

From the moment I invested in my first stock, I was hooked. I was constantly monitoring the market and contemplating my next move. I dedicated a large portion of my summer to studying how to invest as effectively as possible, and I was learning more and more every day. Eventually, I became tired of sitting around and waiting on stocks, so I became interested in trading. I made some successful trades and suddenly thought I was better at managing the market than I thought. I started trading more capital and putting it into smaller and more volatile stocks, and soon enough, I got burned. I lost a decent amount of money because I had gotten careless and figured having so much free time meant I would make more money.

It was a very humbling experience and I learned to not be full of myself and to hold on to the fundamentals that helped me build my portfolio to begin with. I eventually declared a Finance specialization because of how interesting it became to build up a portfolio and the different ways in which I could gain (and lose) money.

As I entered my first semester of college, I understood that I would not have nearly as much free time on my hands, so I steered away from trading and turned back to investing. I have been using any free time I could find to learning more about the market and how to invest most effectively. I joined the Common Cents Club and plan on participating in its challenges while continuing to manage my portfolio. I will continue to build on my passion for investing and plan on sharing more meaningful experiences regarding it soon.
