Still time to get in on algal bloom conference; or, ‘THAT’S why you listen to scientists’

Organizers of the CFAES-co-hosted Understanding Algal Blooms: State of the Science Conference have extended the registration deadline to Wednesday, Sept. 7. The event is Sept. 15 in Toledo. Later that day, the conference site, the Stranahan Theater and Great Hall, is coincidentally hosting a performance by comedian Lewis Black, who coincidentally talks about science and the environment in a 2012 video here.

Climate change deniers are now ‘those who reject mainstream science’

The Associated Press has revised its Stylebook entry on climate change. “We are adding a brief description of those who don’t accept climate science or dispute the world is warming from man-made forces,” said a post yesterday on AP’s Definitive Source blog. “Our guidance is to use ‘climate change doubters’ or ‘those who reject mainstream climate science’ and to avoid the use of ‘skeptics’ or ‘deniers.’ ” CFAES, Ohio State, and many if not most American newspapers and other news outlets follow AP style.
