Nuts to you (sustainably)

A CFAES postdoctoral researcher is one of many speakers set for the 2021 Virtual Annual Conference of the Northern Nut Growers Association, which runs from Aug. 1–4.

Anna Conrad, a postdoctoral researcher in CFAES’ Department of Plant Pathology, will present “Hyperspectral analysis of plant pathogens” during the “Invasive Species and Other Threats” portion of the conference.

Conrad’s research focuses on oak resistance to a pathogen called Phytophthora ramorum. She works as a member of the department’s Bonello Lab, which, its website says, studies “the molecular and chemical, local and systemic, mechanisms of tree resistance to fungal pathogens and insect herbivores.”

The keynote speaker for the conference will be Diana Beresford-Kroeger, a botanist, medical biochemist, and author. Her latest book is To Speak for the Trees: My Life’s Journey from Ancient Celtic Wisdom to a Healing Vision of the Forest.
