Principal Investigator
Matt Summers, PhD
I am an associate professor within the Department of Radiation Oncology at The Ohio State University. My lab studies two proteins, USP37 and p31(comet), which have key roles in regulating the Spindle Assembly Checkpoint (SAC) during mitosis.
Post-doctoral Researchers
Morgan Schrock, DVM, PhD
I came to Ohio State for veterinary school in 2006. After working as an associate veterinarian in private practice for two years, I returned to OSU as a graduate student in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program. I worked in Dr. Kay Huebner’s lab studying chromosomal fragile sites and DNA damage, then joined Dr. Matt Summers’ lab in 2017. My projects in the Summers Lab focus on understanding how p31(comet) regulates the spindle assembly checkpoint in mitosis. As a veterinarian, a scientific interest I bring to this work is the incorporation of naturally-occurring canine cancers as another model for our therapeutic testing.
Honors: American Brain Tumor Association Basic Research Post-doctoral Fellowship
Graduate Students
Ben Stromberg
I am a graduate student in the Summers’ lab. I grew up in Michigan but I moved to Ohio to go to The College of Wooster for undergrad. After I graduated from Wooster I moved to Columbus to begin OSU’s Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program, and a few months later I joined Matt’s lab. Most of the projects I work on focus on understanding deubiquitinating enzymes and how they are connected to different types of cancer. If I am not in lab I love doing things outside such as playing sports, rock climbing, or camping with friends.
Lab Manager
Adrian Torres
I am from New York and graduated from OSU with a major in Microbiology and a minor in Molecular Genetics in 2017. I am currently applying to medical schools.
Mreedol Koirala- rising sophomore at OSU majoring in Molecular Genetics
Past Lab Members
Debjani Pal, PhD
I am postdoctoral researcher in Matt Summers’s lab. I originally came from India. I did my graduation with Microbiology honors from The University of Calcutta in India. I came to USA on 2008 as a graduate student. I graduated from the Chemistry department of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. The major focus of our lab is to study the genomic instability and its impacts in tumorigenesis. My projects involve studying the regulation of a tumor suppressor named Fzr1 or Cdh1 and its role in replication stress response and DNA damage repair.
