Eden Burger: Columbus To-Do #2

I went to Eden Burger with my roommates who are also in HES on 11/11/18. Eden Burger is a cute little vegan burger joint in the Short North area. One of my roommates is vegan, another is vegetarian, and I do not eat beef so I feel like this restaurant choice was very accommodating to everybody. At Eden Burger I ordered a black bean burger with avocado spread that was called The California Burger. Previously I had not ever really ate black bean burgers, I have always opted for a chicken sandwich or something. However, I thought the black bean burger at Eden Burger was very good. I also had a smoothie and I got a pumpkin roll as a dessert for later. My favorite aspect about Eden Burger was that all of the food was delicious, vegan, and made from cruelty-free ingredients. It is definitely a place that I would recommend to friends and would even go back to. However, in the future I would like to explore other aspects of Columbus outside of the short north. Only because I feel like I have explored the Short North a lot and all of the different restaurants in the Short North, but I have not really ventured outside of the Short North area.

Artifact #2

Throughout the autumn semester, I have tried to explore different areas of Columbus. I have explored the various restaurants that the Short North has to offer, I have been shopping at Polaris, and I have even gone to the Ikea in Columbus. However, one place that really stuck with me was the North Market. The first time I went to the North Market was with my Humanitarian engineering scholars peer group, and I instantly fell in love with it. In fact, I loved it so much that when my family came to visit I made sure to bring them there. A couple of things that I really liked about the North Market is how culturally diverse everything was, how it emphasized small businesses, and how it provided me with a place to go for a mental break. As school keeps getting more and more hectic, the North Market reminds me the importance of having balance in my life, and to make time to do things that I enjoy.

Condados Tacos – Columbus To-Do #1

My group and I decided to go to Condado Tacos in the Short North on Sunday 10/28/2018.  The people in my group are: Brendan Eagen, Megan McCarthy, Michael Arndt, Rachel Pierce, Rachel Roman, and Rifky Ruzbihan. My peer group leader was Alex Ng.  Condado Tacos is famous for their build it yourself tacos, and the Short North is a cute trendy part of Columbus. A lot of young people are moving into the Short North, as there are a bunch of cute, little boutiques and restaurants to explore in the Short North.  I am not really a big taco fan, but I really liked Condado Tacos. Back in my hometown of St. Louis, we do not really have a restaurant like Condado Tacos so I thought the concept of the restaurant was really neat. My favorite part of the restaurant was that they allowed me to customize my taco. Also, they offered a lot of unique toppings. On my taco I got shrimp ceviche, which was like cooked shrimp with vinegar. I really enjoyed it. Overall it was a really wonderful opportunity to get to learn more about my fellow groupmates; however, next time I wish we could spend a little more time together as a group. However I definitely want to go back and can’t wait to explore more of Columbus! Below is a picture of my group and I:

Artifact #1

In choosing to go to The Ohio State University, I knew that I would be far away from my family, all of whom reside in St. Louis, Missouri.  I was willing to pay this small price though to learn at a distinguished research institution in a new city with new opportunities.  However, there are still some days, when I miss being with my family. There are also some days when schoolwork is just too overwhelming. On these days, I like to read the letter that my dad wrote me before sending me off to college. I have it hanging right on my bunk bed. When I read the letter, I am reminded of all the love and support I have from my family. It also reminds me of the values instilled in me that makes me who I am today. So even though I am far away from home, this letter from my dad gives me a little piece of home when I need it the most.

About Me

Hi! My name is Tiana Stussie and I am studying biomedical engineering on a premed tract with a Chinese minor. I have always held a strong passion for the field of medicine. I developed a similar love for biomedical engineering during my senior year of high school. As a senior, I was afforded the opportunity to research the applications of silica and titanium dioxide nanoparticles in improving drug delivery methods and the applications of zinc nanoparticles in helping quicken seed germination alongside Dr. Ramesh Raliya and Professor Pratim Biswas at the Washington University’s Nano Research Facility. Outside of research, I am also passionate about making social change, especially in healthcare. Ultimately I want to pursue an MD/PhD program. This way I can use my biomedical engineering degree to create more affordable surgical instruments to ensure that everybody has fair access to proper treatments and surgical procedures. In high school, I was also involved in my school’s social justice and diversity club, mock trial team, science club, and National Honors Society. In my free time I like to listen to music and podcasts, play with my dog, and hang out with friends.

As an undergraduate, I hope to learn more about global public health and sustainable engineering, and how biomedical engineering connects with both of those areas. I am currently a member of the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars and Morrill Scholars group. I am so proud to call The Ohio State University my home and I cannot wait for the next four years! Go Bucks!
