Health Insurance & Healthcare

Ohio State is a tobacco free environment.

Having health insurance coverage is required for students enrolled at least half-time and in a degree program of study at Ohio State. This includes students enrolled at regional campuses.

{The fee for OSU Comprehensive Student Health Insurance is posted to the student’s bursar account when they enroll in eligible classes. Students may waive out of participation in the Student Health Insurance Plan by documenting that they have adequate coverage under another annual health insurance plan.}  A student’s enrollment into or waiver out of the Student Health Insurance Plan is an annual selection. The enrollment selection that the student chooses is binding for the entire plan year, beginning Autumn term thru the following Summer term, if they remain enrolled in eligible classes. {If the student chooses not to go through the select/waive process, the fee for the Comprehensive Student Health Insurance plan will remain on their account.}

The selection/waiver process on the SIS self-service pages for a student enrolled at a regional campus mirrors the same process as a student enrolled at the Columbus campus. For more information, please go to shi.osu.edu/.  Students can waive the health insurance on their Student Center available on buckeyelink.osu.edu.  Waiving deadlines and additional information can be found at shi.osu.edu.

 Providers

The OSU Student Health Insurance Plan has numerous providers in the local area (see osumhcs.com/Search/).  Students always get the most reasonably priced care by going to Student Health Services in Columbus (shc.osu.edu/).  If you have your own private insurance carrier, please contact your carrier for information regarding coverage outside your home area and for covered providers.
