Year in Review

Evan Stover

This year I have made a lot of improvements from my freshman year, particularly in  the fields designated by GOALS. They are as follows.

  1. Global Awareness

For this category, I made substantial progress. I originally wanted to study abroad and I am pleased to say that with help of STEP funding, I will be going on the Psychology Culture in Europe Abroad trip this May. I am extremely happy about this as studying abroad is something I definitely wanted to do during my time at OSU. I also am going to stay a few days after the trip to experience Europe on my own which I think will be extremely rewarding and beneficial to growing myself as a global citizen. I hope that in the next few years, I can reflect on this trip and hopefully take another one after my time at OSU.

2. Original Inquiry.

For this category, I have still not made as much progress as I have hoped, however I am currently in contact with graduate students in Dr. Strunk’s depression lab about a research assistantship this coming fall. I hope that this will help me decided if research is for me and to help plan out my next steps after graduating from OSU.

3. Academic Enrichment.

After graduating from OSU, I want to go on and get my Masters in Clinical Psychology and eventually have my own clinic. I also am following a track to eventually declare a Criminology minor to widen my career path in case opportunities arise that would benefit from knowing these skills. I have been taking very rigorous coursework in order to get the best education I can to prepare myself for graduate school and beyond.

4. Leadership Development.

Currently, I am part of a few different clubs, one being a video game club here on campus. While this is more of an extracurricular club, we do at lot of planning and organizing events throughout the semester. I hope that next year I will be elected into an office to help strengthen my leadership goals and help build relationships with not only other students, but also other organizations that our club works closely with.

5. Service Engagement.

For this category, I have done various service jobs throughout this semester. I have helped make sandwiches for the homeless, as well as helping out with Buckeyethon. These were both very rewarding as I like to help make a difference in my community and the various events OSU puts on has helped me reach this goal. I am very grateful that OSU cares so much about community service and I hope that the things I do now can translate to my everyday life after OSU.
