The Mothman was first sighted in Point Pleasant on November 15, 1966 by a couple that claimed a large flying humanoid creature flew over their car while they were out on a date near an old munitions plant in the town, They said the creature had large glowing red eyes and ten foot long wings. In the following days many more reports came forth and newspapers eventually coined the term “Mothman”, being named after the Batman Villan of the same name as the Batman comic were extremely popular at the time. This is also a very interesting case as usually folore influences pop culture but this time it was the reverse. The most famous sighting being the reports of Mothman being seen before the collapse of the Silver Bridge in 1967 and this gave rise to Mothman appearing before disaster.
