My name is Jacob Stillwagon. I am a Freshman at The Ohio State University. My major, as of now, is Finance. I chose finance because I am interested in the management of funds and the stock market. I chose to attend Ohio State University because I love the size and quality of education at this university. I am from the small town of Tipp City, Ohio and I attended Tippecanoe High School. I ran Cross-Country and Track, and was a member of the Anglers Club. In Cross-Country, I was a varsity member of a state champion and two-time state runner up team. I also was a an active member at my local Catholic Church.
I have one sister, Kelly, who is a Senior who also attends Ohio State. My mother, Beth, lives in Tipp City, and my father, Jeff, lives in Charleston, South Carolina. My parents have been divorced since I was in the third grade, and my mother has remarried since, so I also have a stepfather by the name of Ray. My mother attended Sinclair University, and my father attended Miami (OH) University. From sports to education, my parents have motivated and pushed me to be the person that I am today.
From the end of my Junior year to the summer after my senior year, I worked at a family restaurant called the Root Beer Stand. All of the females worked as waitresses, so all of the guys worked in the kitchen. It was hot and busy at times, especially in the summer. Working the fryers was especially not fun, and there were times where I contemplated putting my 2 weeks in. Looking back at it though, it was a great job, and it helped me build my character and work ethic, as it was my first job. It also taught me how to overcome and handle myself in stressful situations like the 6 o’clock dinner rushes. Experiences like this helped me learn and build myself as a better person and for a better future in the workforce.
Another experience that built myself and my character was high school cross-country. Within the first few weeks of practice my freshman year, I got an injury, one that would only progressively get worse and persisted for the next 10 months of my life. After months and months of physical therapy, I was growing impatient and the frustration was overwhelming at times. But I remained confident and continued to stretch, ice, and do anything else that could potentially speed up the recovery process. By the time my injury had faded away, track was nearing an end. I had to start all over again and catch up to everyone else’s progress. I trained and worked hard, and eventually I was back in shape. I worked my way on to the varsity squad my Sophomore year, and we would go on to be state title contenders for the next 3 years. Experiences like this helped me build patience and confidence.
In my free time, I like to play and watch sports, fish, and play video games. I love watching and playing basketball, football, volleyball, golf, and baseball. I also lift and run occasionally. I also love to travel. I have been to many U.S. states, such as California, Arizona, Florida, and South Carolina. I have also been to Paris, France, and Cancun, Mexico. I also love going to concerts, as I have been to over 25 already in my lifetime. Some other interesting things I have done are rock-climb and I have swam with whale sharks and manta rays. One thing that I really want to do in the future is skydiving.
