My Internship in New York City

I spent the summer in New York City interning with PwC in their auditing group. It gave me the opportunity to learn more about the company and what my future career would look like. I also got to experience what it is like living in New York City.

I became a lot more confident during my internship experience. I had to go out of my comfort zone to meet other interns and connect with the people on my team. There were a lot of tasks I had to do with very little guidance that I had to figure out on my own. I had to be confident in my abilities and the work I produced.

I also learned so much about the business world. I learned about the insurance industry and about how technology is affecting businesses and the future of business. It made me realize how much I don’t know about what is going on in the business world and inspired me to start learning more. I also learned about the insurance industry which gave me confidence to ask to work full time in the insurance market.

There were a lot of panels with staff and partners which helped me make decisions about what I want at PwC. For example, talking with the partners made me decide to stay in the insurance market, and talking with my team made me decide to stay on my mid-sized client. These panels with full-time staff also made me realize how many opportunities there are at PwC outside of auditing that I didn’t know about.

There were also a lot of trainings on technology used both by PwC and other companies. I learned a lot about the technology being used in the business world, such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, and Blockchain. This made me more interested in learning about these technologies and possibly having a career in technology.

This summer has given me a clearer idea about what I want for my future career. Before my internship, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do or if PwC could offer me a job that I would want. By working on different projects and going to different intern events, I could see a future for myself that I couldn’t see before my internship.

I have decided to accept my full time offer to work with PwC in New York as an auditor. I want to stay in that position for a couple of years and learn as much as I can about the business world and accounting, but then I want to transition into a role that focuses more on technology. I also have confirmed that I want to live in New York City. New York is a big place and it took me a lot longer to get used to than I thought. But through the ten weeks, I have gotten used to the city and felt like New York could become my future home. This is something that I wouldn’t have figured out without this internship.

Not only did I become more confident in what I want to do, but I also became more confident in myself and my ability to achieve what I set out to do. This summer has made me realize that PwC has opportunities beyond just auditing and that I have the ability to succeed in these opportunities.
