February 2017 Diversity in STEMM Meeting

Ohio State personnel committed to diversifying the STEMM talent pool convened in February 2017. Our goals were to exchange information about efforts currently in place on campus, to brainstorm how we can interact more effectively, and to network across campus communities.

The following items include the agenda and other resources discussed and provided during February 2017 Diversity in STEMM Meeting:

  • LSAMP Alliance – LSAMP is a National Science Foundation that impacts many alumni, alliances and organizations and works to increase underrepresented minority student recruitment, retention, persistence, and attainment of degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
  • Physics Bridge Program – A two-year MS-to-PhD Program designed to promote entry of passionate young scientists into PhD programs in Physics.
  • Discovery Scholars and Graduate Open House – The Discovery Scholars Program is a 1-year fellowship and the purpose for the Graduate Open House is to proactively engage and recruit admissible diverse students (domestic, female and underrepresented minorities).
  • Professoriate Advancement Initiative – The Professorial Advancement Initiative (PAI) is an NSF-funded project with the goal to double the rate at which Big Ten Academic Alliance institutions hire underrepresented minority (URM) faculty in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
