Leadership

Leadership is something that is pivotal in being successful. I learned a lot about leadership my senior year of high school. I was the leader of my student section at my high school as well as a captain of the lacrosse and swim team. All these things made me realize a few key things about leadership. First, I learned to accept others ideas and compromise to please the majority. I also learned that it is impossible to always please everyone and sometimes, you have to factor in what you think is right and know that not everyone will be pleased. Finally, I learned that confidence is key. If you are confident in what you’re doing, people are much more inclined to follow. If you believe you are right, others will believe you are right.

Introduction to Business

I discovered that I had an interest in business through working at a local swim club. I started my job as a lifeguard going into my sophomore year of high school. The following year I started working both maintenance and life guarding. The following year I worked my way to management. Through becoming a manager I realized that I had an interest in business for a career. Now, I am in the Fisher College of Business studying operations management because of my discovery through my experience working at the swim club. I hope to have a similar experience in my career where I will be able to work my way up in a similar fashion. Although this is a completely different line of work, there a very similar lessons that were learned such as work ethic and respect for superiors.

Global Awareness

Global Awareness: Global awareness is something that is important to me. As I mentioned in my previous artifact I have always loved to travel. I had my first chance to travel outside of the country when I was 12. I got the chance to go to the Dominican Republic. Although we went for vacation we met people from the area before we went to the resort. I was so interested in their culture and ever since then, I have been interested in other cultures. I have traveled to many more countries now including Mexico, Canada, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France. My interest in other cultures has sparked a desire to study abroad here in my time at Ohio State. I have studied Spanish since the 7th grade and would be thrilled to have the opportunity to experience Spanish culture for an extended amount of time.

Travel

Travel

I love to travel. I have always loved to explore new places ever since I was a kid I would love to go on vacations to adventurous places. My parents taught me to respect my environment and be accepting of new cultures. Becuase I learned such skills at a young age I have always had a lot of confidence meeting people who were not like myself. This was extremely useful when I went to Europe this summer. I traveled through Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. I loved getting to know people of all these extremely diverse cultures. It was a truly life changing experience to meet so many people and be accepted into their cultures for the short time that I visited. I learned a lot about their thoughts on Americans as well as how they live their day to day lives. I hope to travel more in the future and potentially study abroad.
