Module 7 Blog Post

After reviewing the final module for this course which was under the title of “Keys to Motivation for Online Learning.” Throughout this module I believe that there are many key takeaways in what I believe is important as well as some advice I have for younger learners who are possibly interested in taking online classes.

The point that I would like to touch on in this blog post regarding the material that was presented in the final module for this course is managing and dealing with stress. For me, I am just getting out of the whole stress-filled week, which is also known as finals week at any college across the country. Stress is a normal thing for people to have and it very important for individuals to know how to manage it. From the textbook, College Success, there are multiple strategies to correctly handle stress. The techniques that I would like to mention are to get exercise regularly and to secondly find a relaxing technique and practice regularly.

With these stress techniques I believe that getting through some of the most stressful time for students is very possible and I think that it always important to note that when taking these exams, everything will be okay in the end and to make sure that you are keeping care of yourself.

Module 6 Reflection

After going through the lesson for this week’s module: “Searching and Research: The Foundations of Academic Writing” I believe that there was a great amount of information that was provided to both myself and my peers in this course.

To begin with, I believe that one of the most crucial pieces of information that was provided was focused on research questions. After reading an article in regard to research questions and their purpose I believe that they are crucial with conducting the steps of the research process as a whole. By knowing what exactly you are trying to research it makes the whole process easier and more engaging. I believe that it also very important to mention that forming research questions before any actual research is done is very efficient and reduces random surfing on the web.

Finally, to wrap it up for some advice, I would say that it is very imperative to use credible sources when doing any research to make sure that they information you are delivering is accurate and useful to your audience. If faulty sources are used for a presentation or research project, then it could be very likely that your audience will be prone to not taking you seriously in the future.

Module 5 Blog Post

After reviewing the content that was provided in Module 5 “Web-Enhanced Listening and Viewing Strategies” I believe that there were a number of useful ideas that I could most definitely employ in the future of my college career.

I believe that one of the more useful and beneficial ideas in this module was the importance of actually attending classes and lectures. As I am currently in most of my major classes within the Fisher College of Business, attendance is usually optional when talking about lectures and as there is usually content online, I find myself skipping class at times. Now after reviewing the content provided in the module, I can now see the true benefits ion class when discussing deeper explanations of material as well as important announcements that may not be made through Carmen.

When moving forward I do believe I have some advice for incoming college students. Note-taking is extremely important, and I would say that your best bet is to handwrite these notes rather than type them out on a computer or tablet. I only do say this because it has been proven that handwriting notes increases short-term and long-term memory retention and thus will promote a deeper understanding of the material and as a result will allow an individual to be successful in their courses.

Module 4 Blog Post

After reviewing the content that was provided in this week’s lecture content “Web-Enhanced Reading and Study Strategies” I believe that there were many great takeaways for my future studies. These takeaways included such materials ranging from out-of-class reading and multitasking.

When I start to think about out-of-class reading this is not something that I have done so much in my educational career when I think about my past. After reviewing the content in the lecture slides, I can now say that it is something that I will take very seriously moving forward. When reading before class it allows the lecture material to sink in much better after leaving lecture. Going into class with an idea of what is about to be presented beforehand allows the material to sink in much better afterwards will result in actually learning the material rather than memorizing the material and cramming before the test.

When I take in all the material and look for advice that I would give to students I would say that the number one thing to be aware of is the subject of multitasking. As said by Watkins and Cory, students “do not perform as well as their light multitasking peers” (Watkins and Cory, 2014). It is easily to get distracted and not have 100% focus on the content when taking in two different types of information. So, to sum it all up for advice I would say to budget out your time in order to avoid multitasking.

Module 3 Reflection

When looking back and reflecting upon the content that was presented to me in this course on efficiency in the digital age there were a number of useful things that I came out with this week that I did not know before.

The aspect of this week that I would like to focus on is procrastination. When I look back through my educational career so far, I have always been a procrastinator; it has shown multiple times when I have assignments and I wait until the last possible minute to complete these assignments or study for exams. While I have been lucky so far receiving good grades, I must change my approach in allowing myself more time before deadlines.

Looking at the video that was provided on how to beat procrastination, “3 Powerful Techniques To Beat Procrastination” the one thing that I enjoyed hearing about was to think about how you feel after completing an assignment early. The emotions of satisfaction and a calming factor always are what I strive to have in my life. If I am able to apply this to my studies, then I will be more productive and efficient with my time.

Going forward, I would give advice to younger students to map out their week with times to study so that when the deadlines come up the assignment will have been completed allowing for the “unpredictable” factor that may come up in the end and to realize that being efficient with your time does not come about without cutting out distractions in your life.

Module 2 Reflection

After reviewing and learning the content in Module 2: Communicating and Collaborating on the Web, I believe that the most important and interesting aspect that I learned from this past week is the section of Netiquette. After listening to Julie Spira, I learned that Netiquette is essentially how individuals conduct themselves on the internet whether that platform may be an email, blog, or social media platform. The whole point and principle behind Netiquette is to protect your digital reputation both online as well as off-line. One point that I will take to heart from this lesson is that it is extremely important to avoid public arguments, flame wars, at all costs to protect your reputation.

While reflecting on the content that was provided in this module and looking at the future generation of student in the world, I would say that the number one thing of advice that I could give would be to take advantage of technology as well as think before you post. In society today technology is at an all-time high in terms of innovation and it will only become better in the future. It will be extremely important for younger students to learn all about the functions and media platforms to efficiently communicate with their peers. Secondly, bringing it back to the subject of Netiquette, it is extremely important to watch what you post in order to avoid a bad digital reputation. To help with this, it will be wise to read through what you are about to post before pressing “send” to make sure nothing can be taken the wrong way.
