G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc .
Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.
Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.
Service Engagement: Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.]

Global Awareness: As a student here, I hope to study abroad in Europe. I feel that this experience outside of my home country will be crucial to my development, both inside and outside the classroom. Through learning a different culture, I will be able to step out of my parochial mindset and understand what it means to be a citizen of the world. I plan to travel with a study abroad group that fits my interests or flows with my academic major. I want to experience the new country, while also furthering my understanding about what I want to do with the rest of my life. I will also take three semesters of Spanish to help me learn the culture of another one of the most popular languages spoken in the world.

Original Inquiry: As a Data Analytics pre-major, going into the business analytics specialization, I will be required to complete a business capstone project. I am very excited for an opportunity to apply my knowledge in a real life business setting. This will also allow me to get a feel for research and help me decide if I wanted to pursue a more research-based career. In addition to my capstone project, I plan to use my future knowledge in computer science to create something of my own. I hope to create something real such as an app or even something smaller such as a game. In computer science classes, I have spent a lot of time making small programs, and so I feel that taking on my own project that creates something usable would be very rewarding.

Academic Enrichment: The arts and sciences honors program enables me to take a wide range of courses. Through these varied courses, I hope to gain not only a rich and diversified education, but also a more personalized one through the smaller classes in the honors program. These classes will help me to gain a better relationship with my instructors and be more motivated to actually absorb the material. I plan to take on more business classes in addition to my major, possibly picking up a minor through Fisher. I want to use my knowledge gained through the DA major, and apply them to the business world.

Leadership Development: I am currently a member of the Big Data and Analytics Association here at Ohio State. This being a newer club, I hope to eventually get more involved and run for an elected e-board position to help keep the club doing great things. Through this club and others, I will attempt to gain the crucial leadership skills necessary to be successful in the modern business world. There will also be leadership opportunities in the coming years, as I plan on rushing a fraternity this coming spring.

Service Engagement: With a university as large as Ohio State, there are countless opportunities to give back to the wonderful Columbus community. I plan to engage in projects such as cleaning up the Olentangy river and cleaning up around campus to keep it looking picturesque. In addition to small service projects throughout the year, I hope to rush a social fraternity in the spring. This fraternity would give me a helpful support system, while also enabling me to engage in a lot of philanthropy. Specifically, I would like to help the inner city youth in someway meaningful.
