Year in Review

This year has challenged me in more ways than I ever could have imagined. I took on a very demanding role as a Resident Advisor and joined new clubs while also maintaining a good relationship with the clubs I was already involved in. I was challenged to grow as a leader in a community where I am very close in age to the residents so a firm establishment of my roles and responsibilities had to be set from the very beginning. I have had to call EMS, I have had to handle multiple Title IX cases and I have had to call the police. Before this job, I never even knew that OSU had their own police force or that the RA is trained for so little and yet expected to do so much. I’ve learned that I can take immense amounts of pressure and still be able to perform in the heat of the moment. I’ve learned through my school work that this college will prepare me to be able to walk into just about any role once I graduate and I will still be able to be successful. I’ve also learned that relying on your support system in times of distress is essential to maintaining sanity, especially in this job. I feel that I’ve grown more this year than I have in years past and I wouldn’t change any of it for the world. I also joined a sorority and didn’t know at first if this group of women would accept me. I’ve never been the type to follow so I was initially wary of the idea but once I spoke to the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma, I knew it was where I wanted to be because we are all encouraged to be ourselves. I look forward to taking on a leadership role next year within this organization and also maintaining the leadership role I have with being a Resident Advisor. I also look forward to maintaining the great relationships I have with my fellow Business Scholars as we venture into our Junior year of college. It is nice to know that I will always have a group that I can turn back to if need-be. Whether that’s for class recommendations or help finding a great spot to eat in Columbus, I know my fellow BSPers have my back.
