Our lab is fully equipped with state-of-the-art research capabilities for comprehensive biomechanics assessments, featuring advanced instrumentation for measuring kinematics, kinetics, sensory systems, head acceleration from blunt head impacts, and blast exposure.

Immersive Labs

The Immersive Labs (Bertec Corp, Columbus, OH, USA) is an immersive environment that provides controlled visual feedback and consists of a 5m, 180-degree spherical screen and a wide-angle 4k projector. The split-belt treadmill that is part of the Immersive Labs is fully instrumented with full-length force plates to provide accurate ground reaction forces and center of pressure. Treadmill speed and acceleration can be controlled at a frequency of 1kHz in a fixed or self-paced mode. A 9-camera markered motion capture systems (Vicon Motion Systems Ltd, UK) surrounds the instrumented treadmill to provide full body kinematics.

Markerless Motion Capture

The Theia3D motion capture system (Theia Markerless Inc., Kingston, Ontario, Canada) leverages 8 OptiTrack cameras (NaturalPoint, Inc., Corvallis, OR) for full body kinematics.

Inertial Measurement Units

The Opal IMUS (APDM, INC., Portland, OR, USA) offer full body kinematics outside the confines of a camera capture volume.

ForceDecks

The ForceDecks (VALD Performance, Queensland, Australia) are portable force plates for analyzing balance, strength and movement.

Bertec Vision Trainer

The Bertec Vision Trainer (Bertec Corp, Columbus, OH, USA) trains visual, motor coordination, and balance skills using an impact-resistant touchscreen.

Senaptec Sensory Station

Like the Bertec Vision Trainer, the Senaptec Sensory Station (Senaptec Inc., Beaverton, OR, USA) measures and trains visuomotor skills using a touchscreen and tablet.

DX-100™ and I-Portal®

The DX-100™ and I-Portal® (Neurolign Technologies Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, USA) is a fully-capable VNG system with a 3D display built into a VR headset for oculomotor, visual, vestibular, and reaction time testing.

DC-STIMULATOR MR

The DC-STIMULATOR MR (neuroCare Group, Germany) is an MR-compatible stimulator for use in scientific research that provides non-invasive stimulation with weak currents, either direct or alternating, currently used for galvanic vestibular stimulation.

Impact Monitoring Mouthguards

The Impact Monitor Mouthguard (Prevent Biometrics, Edina, MN) measures the number and severity of head impacts in real-time.

Blast Gauge System

The Blast Gauge® System (BlackBox Biometrics, Inc., Rochester, NY) is a 3-sensor set worn on the head, shoulder, and chest to measure blast exposure in real-time.

Blast Tracker

The Blast Tracker (Med-Eng, Ottawa, Canada) is a wearable, rechargeable blast sensor that measures blast events and accumulated blast exposure.
