Freshman Year: the Good, the Bad, and Everything Inbetween

Freshman year was certainly an interesting one. It was challenging, in both expected and unexpected ways. There were some things that I knew were going to be difficult – like needing to be entirely responsible for myself without my parents always there, but there were also things that I never dreamed were going to be as difficult as they actually were.

Everyone always told me that college was going to be hard, and I knew it would be in some regards, but I didn’t really get it. My first semester here was both the worst and the best, for many different reasons. Freedom was great, but the flipside was learning  to regulate my life on my own. If I forgot to set an alarm or got the days mixed up it was entirely on me to fix the situation.

Freshman year is really important in a lot of different ways, and one of the ways that I didn’t initially realize was how it would impact my life in the long term. It’s a stepping stone to the rest of my life. At first, I didn’t recognize that and didn’t treat it as such.

Overall, I certainly noticed changes in myself – both personally and professionally. I learned how to juggle classes, friends, and work, while still enjoying myself. Professionally, I think I pushed myself to be the best that I could be given the knowledge I had at this point in time.
