About Me

My name is Ryan Thomas Springer and,  I am a freshman at the Ohio State University. I am in the STEM EE scholars program and studying to get into the Computer Science and Engineering Major. I have always been interested in computers and learning how they work. I am aspiring to become a programmer at a company such as Microsoft or Google. Now that I got all of the boring introductions out of the way I can talk about some fun stuff.

My favorite movie is “The Big Lebowski” by the Coen Brothers. It’s a comedy starring Jeff Bridges and I strongly suggest it to anyone who has a strong sense of humor. I have a passion for movies and film, but not until I took multiple Video Productions classes at my high school, Hoover. These classes taught me to appreciate all the effort that goes into making a movie. It taught me about all the teamwork and planning that is required to produce a high quality movie. Every shot of a movie is storyboarded and planned out with an insane amount of precision. I tried to use the same method when I made my movies for the class, and even when I had to do projects for a Programming class. A strong planning method is a great tool to use in anything you do.

Have you ever heard of the game foursquare? You know, that thing that fifth graders play at recess. Well try to imagine a bunch of 18 year olds playing it. That basically sums up my senior year of high school. A bunch of my friends and I started a foursquare club. It never became an official club at the school but it got big enough to get a page in the yearbook. The thing I like about foursquare is that there are no winners. No matter how many people you get out or how good you are at the game, you can’t win. What you can do, is try your hardest. You should always strive to give everything your best effort.

When I was born, I was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot. Which is just a fancy way of saying I had a hole in my heart. I had to have open heart surgery at 11 months old. Thankfully, I survived and haven’t needed surgery since then, but I still need to get check ups on it annually. It has impacted the way I live, but not necessarily in a bad way. It taught me to live everyday to the fullest. Surround yourself with the things and the people you love. Things that are out of your control can happen, but you can’t let the fear of what could happen stop you from experience what is happening.

My top five strengths are harmony, consistency, analytical, relator, and positivity. These strengths represent me extremely accurately. They express how I act toward others and how I accomplish tasks. Harmony shows that I mainly focus on completing the task at hand. If I am unsure how a task is completed, I seek out help from someone who does. This is the main way I complete any work given to me. Consistency describes how I go through the day. I like having a routine. If I do the same thing over and over again I will get better at it. This can mean using a certain method of studying or practicing. I also feel comfortable having a routine throughout the day. Just as I like having a routine, I also need a plan. My analytic strength helps in my ability to plan. I am able to prioritize and figure out what I need to get done and when. This is one of the strengths I use often in my everyday life. I use the relator strength when communicating with teammates. It helps by allowing me to show my teammates my view of thinking. Lastly my positivity strength helps me always maintain a good attitude. Knowing these strengths doesn’t change my future goals, but it does make me aware of what I can do. It shows me the path that I need to take to achieve my goals. I need to use my planning and people skills to learn what I need to and accomplish the steps on the way to my goal.
