Taylor Ballinger

Hi, I’m fifth-year in the social psychology program! I grew up in Indianapolis, IN, and received my B.A. in Psychology and English from Indiana University in 2016 working with Victor Quintanilla and Mary Murphy.

My research interests broadly focus on social identity threat and intergroup relations. Particularly, I’m interested in how our expectations, interactions, and environments affect our feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.  In one line of research, I’m trying to figure out how confirming a negative stereotype about one’s group reduces motivation and performance in other negatively-stereotyped domains. In another project, I’m interested in how exposure to blatant acts of racism affects Whites’ abilities to detect more subtle forms of prejudice.
