Matt Wilmot

Matthew Wilmot is a visiting scholar finishing his PhD. at the Ohio State University under the mentorship of Dr. Steve Spencer. Matthew studies the situations that evoke social identity concerns in people from marginalized groups and how these concerns are manifested in the intergroup interaction. From race to gender to sexual orientation, his research addresses a broad array of social identities and how the beliefs that people hold about the quality of relations between certain social groups (e.g. African Americans and European Americans, LGBTQ and heterosexual people, STEM men and STEM women) may stem from these social-identity concerns. Therefore, as an ultimate goal, Matthew is interested in testing the efficacy of psychological interventions in removing (or reducing) these concerns which, in turn, will increase the quality of actual interactions between people from these groups. When not working, Matthew enjoys sports, board games, and a consistent patio life with friends.
