Year in Review

This year was my second and final year in the Dunn Sport and Wellness Scholars program.  This program has provided me with endless opportunities and amazing experiences.  The most important thing I have taken from my scholars program is the friends and connections I have made from it.  My four best friends at Ohio State are all part of DSWS as well and I am living with two of them this year.  I can’t even imagine how different my life in college would be if I hadn’t joined DSWS.  If it weren’t for DSWS I wouldn’t have been involved in most of the activities and clubs that I am part of now and I would have missed out on hundreds of great memories.  I have also made connections with people who have and will help me pursue my career goals.  We have different people come in to talk to the class every other week and I have learned many important life lessons from them and made connections with a few of the speakers.  One of my favorite speakers this year was Gene Smith who is the athletic director at Ohio State.  I really connected with his message because he is passionate about many of the same things that I am and has so much experience with it.  I also connected a lot with a few of the entrepreneurs who came in to talk to us because I would like to be an entrepreneur in the future and I learned a lot about the mentality and skill-set it takes to successfully run a business.  Through this program I have also volunteered many hours and gained a greater appreciation for service.  I found a few organizations and events that I really like and am planning to continue to volunteer after I graduate from scholars.  I will definitely keep close ties with many of my good friends that I met through this program and continue to apply the lessons I have learned in the past years to make better decisions and lead a healthy and successful life.
