We want to be a resource for you to learn about and keep tabs on the events and organizations that are of interest to you.

Besides having some interesting articles about events, we are also going to host contests throughout the year. Stay tuned to learn how to win some great prizes! Please click the Follow Button (lower right corner) to get an update each time a new Blog post goes live.

If you are interested in writing for the sOUrce, please feel free to contact us! We’re happy to have new people on our writing team so we can share even more information that would interest the Ohio State community.  Please contact Eve Esch (esch.12@osu.edu) for more information!

The Ohio Union Events Team is looking for new writers! Two of our contributors (pictured below) are graduating and while they are irreplaceable, we need additional writers to ensure that the source grows and thrives in the future.

Chyna Mitchell & Ariel Balske are source contributors who are graduating.

One of our current writers, Susannah Iles, a Political Sciences major says:

“I appreciate that everyone here promotes a healthy work/life balance. The schedule is really flexible, so that you aren’t forced to prioritize work over academics. The environment here is very friendly and laid-back, but I have also gotten a lot of valuable guidance about my writing. I would recommend this job to someone who wants to feel the pulse of Ohio State Student Life and enjoys writing.”

If you are interested in joining Susannah (Susie) and writing blog posts about events/activities/topics relevant to the Ohio Union, please email: Eve Esch (esch.12@osu.edu) and she’ll be happy to share more information.

Registration for Pelotonia 2015 opens on January 28th!

Pelotonia, now in its 7th year, is a three-day bike ride August 7-9 around central Ohio with their fundraising efforts going to support cancer research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. 100% of all funds raised by riders, virtual riders or volunteers goes directly to the James.

Cancer knows no boundaries. In today’s world, there is hardly a person who can say that they have not personally been touched by cancer in some way. It is important for everyone to do his or her part in helping fight cancer, so that one day we can live in a cancer-free world.

There are many ways options to ride, volunteer or donate to this great cause. Team Buckeye is the official Ohio State peloton and serves as a great support for all Buckeye riders. You can check out their website here: http://teambuckeye.osu.edu/

The Office of Student Life also has their own peloton. Last year, they had eleven riders and thirteen virtual riders from twelve different Student Life departments participate in Pelotonia. Together, they rode over 800 miles during Pelotonia weekend and raised $19, 927.

Check out the Pelotonia recruitment video here!

This year, the Office of Student Life would like to build on the success of this year’s team with a representation from all fifty-two Student Life departments for  Pelotonia 2015. For more information about The Office of Student Life’s peloton team, visit their team profile: https://www.mypelotonia.org/team_profile.jsp?MemberID=114133&SearchStart=150&PAGING

The best part about the ride is that anyone can do it. You do not have to be a cyclist or even really know how to bike. Everyone is there for One Goal: End Cancer.

Ohio Union Hosts 100,000th Event

The sOUrce regularly recognizes student organizations for their dedication to creating extraordinary experiences that engage the student body through fostering academic, intercultural and personal development. Today’s Student Organization Spotlight is on the Guitar Club at The Ohio State University, also known as the OSU Guitar Club.

This organization offers support for those who wish to expand their knowledge both of the instrument and of musical theory. They welcome all who enjoy playing or listening to guitar, would like to learn how to play guitar or play actively with other members. The group regularly meets at 5 p.m. on Mondays in the Ohio Union. Please visit/like their Facebook page to stay up to date with their activities: www.facebook.com/groups/osuguitarclub/

Their meeting this week was exciting because it was the 100,000th event to occur in the Ohio Union! The Ohio Union opened on March 29, 2010 and averages over 20,000 events per year.

"Ohio Union 100,000th Event"In recognition of this momentous occasion, Ohio Union staff recognized the group with a certificate, banner, buttons and, of course, some 100 Grand candy bars!
