Ultrasound Interest Group begins “UltraFest”

Ultrasounds are an integral part of today’s medical practices.  On Saturday, February 21, the Ultrasound Interest Group and The Ohio State College of Medicine held a free Ultrasound symposium at Meiling Hall, called UltraFest.  Ultrafest provided medical students with hands-on training for bedside ultrasound as well as three guest speakers who are well-regarded in the field.

The student organization, Ultrasound Interest Group, advocates for a more focused approach to student and physician ultrasound education.  A three step educational path leads to a point where one can make crucial bedside decisions in a department such as the ICU.  The path starts with knowledge of anatomy, then clinical assessment and finally ends with decision making in a hospital setting.

The group provides a series of tutorials on their website that range from the basics through vascular access and a multitude of topics in between.  Each tutorial contains a video demonstration and educational slides for the viewer to help individuals understand the topic.  The Ultrasound Interest Group also details a “Case of the Month” that walks the audience through a unique ultrasound examination.  Simply put, there’s much to gain for any student interested in medicine, just by looking through their website.
