G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: My plan for cultivating and developing my appreciation for diversity and individuals unique differences is to work with a wide variety of people once graduated or even before. Since my plan is to pursue some sort of research position in physics, my collaborating with the best of the best will almost certainly entail working with those of very different backgrounds, and more importantly, differing perspectives on tough problems. If everyone comes from roughly the same “places”, then it will be more unlikely for new and unique ideas to flourish.

Original Inquiry: As someone who is invested in going into research professionally, my contributions of original inquiry will hopefully be quite high. Obviously as of right now, I have done nothing of real integrity in terms of original inquiry, I hope as I continue my undergrad degree, and into graduate school, I will be able to be of serious help in terms of what I am able to provide for the good of science. Using my ability to its fullest is my goal in this regard, and I am excited to be able to contribute research to the field.

Academic Enrichment: I have always challenged myself in terms course load, and I feel that I have continued this trend in college. I took a total of 8 AP classes in high school, with 5 of those coming from my very bloated senior year schedule, and the pleasure I derived from doing well in those courses strengthened my will to take harder and harder courses. I am currently showing this through my honors calculus based physics class, my calculus 2 class, and my honors philosophy class. While many freshman tend to retake calculus at college to ensure they have a tight grasp on the subject, I decided to simply move on to calculus 2 in order to challenge myself maximally. I chose my honors philosophy because it fulfilled a GE requirement, but also because this new way of thinking was interesting to me, so I took the honors version of the course to further augment this affect.

Leadership Development: Especially in a lab setting, I will always strive to lead my classmates in helpful direction. As I progress through my undergrad degree, I hope to continue this trend even through my tougher classes in order to not only benefit those working with me, but also to make me more comfortable with the material.

Service Engagement: In terms of real commitment, I don’t really have many outside of going to class, and completing assignments on time. I attend a couple clubs regularly, however, neither of them are terribly demanding of me, so I wouldn’t really count these. Over these next 4 years, I plan on getting more involved with programs that promote the teaching of the sciences in less privileged areas of the country and the world.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

[ “G.O.A.L.S.” is a place where students write about how their planned, current, and future activities may fit into the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S.: Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement. • Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc.
  • Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
  • Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.
  • Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.
  • Service Engagement: Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.]

About Me

My name is Aidan Snyder, and I am physics major interested in pursuing a PhD in the subject. I love the subject and have been interested in it for as long as I can remember, from watching my icons on the history channel, to incessantly googling new and interesting concepts, trying my hardest to comprehend their magnitude. I am from North Ridgeville, Ohio, and in my free time I like to hang out with friends, play chess, and read.
