Year in Review

My second year at The Ohio State University has brought with it many successes, challenges, and opportunities for growth. I have succeeded academically, professionally, and personally. Throughout the course of this year, I maintained a very high GPA and received good grades. I made many new friends this year and made a lot of great memories.

To start, I was a part of a Fisher mentor program, where I met with my professional mentor every few weeks to learn from him and ask him for advice.

I was selected to be one of six students to represent OSU in the Deloitte Audit Innovation Challenge. We prepared our case solution over five weeks, then flew to Minneapolis, MN to compete against seven other schools in our region. This was a great learning experience and taught me a lot about project management.

In October 2018, I accepted an internship offer to work with Eaton in their Finance/Accounting Intern Program in Pittsburgh for the summer of 2019. I am looking forward to this opportunity to grow as a professional and learn more about the possibilities within the field of Accounting.

Winter break this year was filled with a lot of travelling. I went to Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, FL as a part of the Buckeye-I-Serv Program. This is a village where children with terminal illnesses can stay on their wish trip if they choose to go Disney World. My experience on this service trip was incredible and brought back many memories. My youngest sister, Kortney, was a wish kid and we stayed at Give Kids the World Village almost 10 years ago for her wish trip. It was such a gratifying experience to give back to a place that means so much to me and my family.

The second half of winter break was another new adventure. My family flew out to California to watch the Buckeye’s win the Rose Bowl. This was my first time in California, so my family made a vacation out of it and we were able to explore LA and San Diego.

Coming back to campus in the spring, the semester picked up immediately with sorority recruitment. I helped recruit new members to Chi Omega and a few short weeks after recruitment, I was given a little sister in my sorority.

The second weekend in February, I flew out to Philadelphia with the executive board from the Undergraduate Business Women’s Association to attend the Big 10 Women in Business Conference. Serving as the VP of Member Relations in UBWA this year was an incredible experience, one that taught me so much about being a leader. One of my main roles in this position was to send the weekly emails to the 1500+ people on the email list. With this came an improvement in my communication skills. During my time in Philadelphia, I was able to hear from very successful women, and meet students from other universities and learn about how they run their organizations.

Moving into the spring, I was one of four students selected from OSU to participate in the Deloitte Alternative Spring Break Program in Atlanta, GA. I served the Atlanta community alongside 63 other students from across the country and Deloitte recruiters and professionals. My group volunteered in a high school in an impoverished area of Atlanta for the week. This was a very eye-opening experience and I became even more grateful for the opportunities I’ve been presented with in my life. I had so much fun on this trip and got to explore downtown Atlanta in our free time.

A week after returning home from this program, I was extended an offer for an internship with Deloitte, in the Audit and Assurance practice, in the Columbus office for the summer of 2020. I am very excited to have this opportunity to learn what it is like working for one of the Big 4 accounting firms.

To wrap up the end of the year, my sister younger sister announced that she will be continuing her education at The Ohio State University. I am really excited to have my sister with me on campus starting in the fall.

This was just a snap-shot of my second year on campus. I cannot wait to see what the future holds and what adventures my third year on campus brings.

Artifacts

A football sugar cookie and a buckeye cupcake represent more to me than just a tasty treat. As a member of UBWA on their BuckeyeThon committee, I participated in the planning and execution of a bake sale at the Penn State vs. OSU 2017 football game. We spent a week baking these goodies and walked around to tailgates before the game to sell them. It is significant to me because it represents the first big fundraising event that I was a part of at OSU. We raised over $1,000 for BuckeyeThon! I feel a great sense of accomplishment and Buckeye pride when reflecting on this experience.

About Me

I am Reagan Snyder, a first year student in the Fisher College of Business and a member of the Business Scholars Program. I am an Accounting major with a minor in Spanish. In the future,  I hope to become a CPA and work for one of the big four accounting firms. I am a hard-working, determined, organized student who enjoys problem solving and collaboration. I am a Mason High School alumni and loved being very involved in my local community and high school. I was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Mason Soccer Team, Varsity Track Team, and VP of Finance at Comet Savings and Loan (high school bank). My leadership role at Comet Savings and Loan, overseeing employees and balancing the savings accounts, made me realize that I wanted to pursue business, particularly Accounting as my future career.  I have enjoyed transitioning to OSU and becoming involved in the OSU community. I am a member of Undergraduate Business Women Association (UBWA), Cru, and Fisher Citizenship Program. When not in class, I enjoy trying new restaurants, relaxing in my hammock, and working out.
