Health and Wellness

I took a class this semester on Wellness. In the course, we set time-oriented, specific, and attainable goals. We met with our teachers and graduate TAs, who were wellness coaches. With their help and refining, I managed to not only achieve but exceed 2/3 goals. My third goal I only fell short of by a few points and have no doubt in my mind I will be accomplishing it in the near future!

Global Awareness

I recently sat in on a meeting with my unit describing our global impact as United States service members. Contrary to popular belief, not everybody in the military is a fighting and killing machine. In fact, that’s the opposite of most of us! Despite knowing how to shoot a weapon, my primary job is to provide medical aid and support. This isn’t just limited to Americans. American civilian and civilian casualties from other countries are also provided aid.

The Army provides humanitarian and medical missions around the world. Currently, we are deploying to places like Haiti and Africa to provide care and support for things such as vaccinations and dental treatment. We also conduct research in medicine, science, and engineering just like many civilian places.

Bonus points: I found out that I may be deploying in the very near future to Qatar, where I will be providing operations support! 🙂

Leadership Development

I was promoted on the 1st of December into a “Sergeant” position! My new unit is in Twinsburg, OH. I am in charge of two soldiers and the promotion comes with many new responsibilities! Not only am I in charge of multiple soldiers, I’m expected to go to different schools to learn new things (Next stop: Camp Parks, CA!) and set a better example. It’s been a great experience so far!
