The Snellen Letter is the monthly student newsletter from your Student Services Office! We hope to keep you connected to student and college news and centralize communication of the most important announcements for the month. Last week we welcomed the class of 2022 to The Ohio State University College of Optometry family. Of our 69 new students, 32 are from Ohio and 37 represent 23 different states! They bring a 3.72 average cumulative GPA and an average academic OAT score of 345. Yet another very impressive group of BuckEYES! We look forward to getting to know the class of 2022 this year!

Please remember to record any absence from an exam or required event on the Absence Form found in the For Current Students section of the website. This form is not a notification of your absence, but rather to document your excuse for the absence. Think of it as a “doctor’s note.” When you click on this link, you will see the familiar Ohio State login page and then will be directed to the form. All complete forms will go to Dr. Earley, Jen Bennett and Becca Roby. You will then be able to specify which additional instructors you want the form sent to.

It’s scary to think about, but an active aggressor could strike any place, at any time. That’s why Ohio State’s Department of Public Safety has released a new “Surviving an Active Aggressor” video to educate the campus community. The 9-minute video provides important updates to the university’s original safety tutorial released in 2015. The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority and we encourage all Buckeyes to watch.

Did you know that The Snellen Letter was named by Ohio State Optometry alumna Paula Kelby (OD’18)? The newsletter name was selected from 47 student entries. The suggested names were so fantastic, we could not pick just one, so we use the name “Focal Points,” submitted by Brooke Weisenburger (Class of 2019), for the important date section below.
