As a finance major and as a college student, I understand the importance of internships to help build your professional skills as well as building up your network. The Fisher College of Business at Ohio State has a website where they post internship opportunities for their students. I went on this website one day and came across an opportunity with The Hershey Company as a Hersheypark Leadership Development Intern for the Summer of 2021. I read over the description for this internship that I was going to apply to and it matched perfectly with the skills that the Mount Leadership Society Scholars Program has already helped me with as my time being a First-Year Mountie. I was offered an opportunity to interview after reviewing my application and resume. I was nervous at the beginning with this being my first official internship that I’ve ever interviewed for. However, I felt very confident knowing what the Mount Scholars Program has taught me and I knew that I had prior leadership experience in both Mount and in High School. The interview was pretty difficult but I felt good afterwards, I came out of that interview with some confidence built up inside of me. A few weeks later, I received a phone call and I was very fortunate to receive an offer to be a member of the Summer 2021 Hersheypark Leadership Development Internship Program with The Hershey Company. I couldn’t be any more excited as I have the amazing opportunity to apply my past leadership skills into a new professional setting. I will be able to combine my first job experience with working at Kings Island Amusement Park with my leadership skills that I have gained both through Mount and in the High School Program SIBS (Students Involving and Befriending Students) that I was involved with into one job setting. I feel like this opportunity will really help me grow and I cannot wait for this Summer so I can learn and apply these new leadership skills and lessons to my second year in Mount Scholars this Autumn!
