G.O.A.L.S. Year 2

Global Awareness: This summer, while I did not travel outside of the country, I did get to experience what living outside of Ohio was like. Being raised in Cincinnati for my entire life, all I have ever known was Ohio. This summer, I decided to participate in the Hersheypark Leadership Development Internship Program in Hershey, Pennsylvania. During my time at this internship, not only was I able to learn valuable leadership lessons that I can apply into my life and my career, but I was also able to learn what it was like to live on my own. While Pennsylvania is not vastly different from Ohio, I was still able to travel and explore what life was like in another state.

Original Inquiry: As I start my sophomore year with one internship under my belt, I look forward to the opportunity to learn more in regards to my minor and searching for opportunities in the music industry. This semester, I am taking one of the core courses for my Music, Media, and Enterprise minor which I hope to learn more about this industry. Through this class, I hope to learn more about what it takes to make it in this field and what it takes in order to make it there.

Academic Enrichment: This semester, while it is still towards the beginning, has become the hardest semester of my college career. I am now entering both my business core courses as well as the core courses for my minor. While these classes have been difficult, it has taught me many valuable lessons about facing adversity in classes as well as how t0 manage my time. I feel like now that I am in courses focused on my interests as well, I am now even more devoted to my academics despite my grades reflecting that a course is more difficult than my previous semesters. I am really looking forward to learning more about finance as well as the music industry in my classes this semester.

Leadership Development: Reflecting once again on this past summer, I was also able to receive a certificate from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania in Leadership Development. I received this certificate upon completion of my leadership development internship through Hershey Entertainment and Resorts. In this leadership internship, I was able to learn from professionals during the week that work in the entertainment and hospitality industries on leadership in the workplace and how to implement it. Following the lessons, I worked in the attractions department of Hersheypark where I got to implement these lessons back into the field.

Service Engagement: My year of service project this year is working with the Crisis Text Line. This is an organization where users can reach out to a crisis volunteer, which is what I will be doing. Users reach out when they are in a heated moment and we work to bring them back down to a cool calm. I recently just finished my training for this project which has been taking place online for the past couple weeks. For our year of service project, we must devote to 70+ hours of service. After my thorough training to become a volunteer at the crisis text line, I am proud to say that I am well along in my journey with 30 hours now down under my belt.
