G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I plan to work toward the goal of Global Awareness by tailoring my education to one that exposes me to many different cultures of the world; I will do this by selecting courses related to global issues. I also plan on studying abroad during my four years here at Ohio State, and I think that experience will truly help me to gain a better understanding of what it’s like outside of the U.S. I’m currently involved in a student organization called Peace Corps Club, which also allows me to learn about things that are happening outside of the borders.

Original Inquiry: My main goal for Original Inquiry is research. I think research is a great way to not only learn about new methods and techniques in a real-world setting, but it also will help to enhance what I’m learning in the classroom. I strive to become involved in an environmental research project, perhaps one that focuses on people’s attitudes toward the topic and how that affects the way citizens carry out their actions involving the environment. Research will definitely challenge me to think independently and develop my own ideas.

Academic Enrichment: I plan on enriching my academic education by challenging myself inside the classroom with many upper-level and honors courses. I will go above and beyond what is expected by doing little things like spending that one extra hour in the library or stopping in for office hours. Being an EEDS major, I am extremely interested in the environment and sustainability, so it makes it easy for me to want to achieve excellence in my studies.

Leadership Development: I believe that leadership is an extremely important part of my education. I am currently in a position of leadership in the Peace Corps Club at OSU. This student organization aims to give back to the community while also preparing its members for a future in the Peace Corps. As Chairperson of Youth & Community Development, it is my job to find and contact volunteer connections in order to set up volunteer events that revolve around youth and the community. On top of this, I plan on securing an internship during my college career, which will help me to put my leadership skills to work.

Service Engagement: Providing my time and service to the community is an integral part of being a student at The Ohio State University. Along with volunteering through the Peace Corps Club, I plan on becoming involved with the local Sierra Club chapter in order to volunteer in an area of my interest. Also, during winter break, I am going on a Buck-I-Serv volunteer trip where we will be working with Habitat for Humanity to build houses for the less fortunate in Pensacola, FL.  In addition, this summer I am volunteering with a group called Sustainable Cleveland that works to transform Cleveland into a greener city,
