My freshman year at Ohio State has been centered around cancer research and continued work in Tanzania. Although I did not return to Tanzania during this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I have continued working remotely with my counterparts in Tanzania on the bicycle project. We have gained support from the Ohio State Office of International Affairs, and I look forward to getting back to Africa when possible. In the meantime, I have been working on my Swahili. Classes are going really well, but an even better place to learn than the classroom for me has been in the cancer lab with my PI. It is really cool and tremendously insightful to get hands-on experience with cancer research, and I plan to continue my research involvement later this year by applying for the Pelotonia Undergraduate Fellowship.
