This past summer I was able to travel to Ljubljana, Slovenia on a mission trip with a Christian organization on OSU’s campus called Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ). During this trip. Slovenia is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been, and the people are even better! The main thing that we did while we were living in the capital city of Ljubljana, was to do outreach at the different college locations of the University of Ljubljana spread around the city. We would initiate spiritual conversations with students to get their perspective of religion and a good amount of the time by the end of the conversation we were able to have shared the Gospel with them. The English camp my team helped with in Sarajevo, Bosnia was a huge success. In this camp, we participated in an exchange program with Bosnian High School students to understand cultural priorities. We then collected qualitative data on Bosnian motivations and habits to diversify an understanding of humanity. Led workshops to discuss complex topics in pursuit of healthy, sustainable, and impactful lifestyles. We were able to make great connections with the high schoolers and we got to share what we believe. Two of the students, one being one of my campers, came to know that Lord that week! Throughout this trip, I learned so much and my relationship with God has grown immensely! My team was amazing and the community and the unity that was formed was like nothing I’ve ever experienced!

My interests and activities are very closely aligned with the GOALS that OSU Honors and Scholars set to accomplish. The part of the GOALS that I can most relate to accomplishing is Service Engagement. This year, for my scholar’s program Mount Leadership, I am serving at Project OpenHand which is a food pantry within LifeCare Alliance that services people affected by HIV/AIDS I volunteer there once or twice a week. Serving within the community has been an amazing way to hear peoples stories and learn from their experiences.
Through my scholar’s program, Mount Leadership, I have also been engaged in leadership development. Mount prepares us to lead by making us aware of our strengths and weakness and how to use that self-knowledge in group settings and working with others who are different from you. We spend a lot of time looking at personality results- Meyer-Briggs, StrengthsQuest, and True Colors. These tests have personally helped me discover my type of leadership. This discovery allows me to work more efficiently with others because of my known strengths and weaknesses. It also allows me to see where others differ, and how I can still learn to collaborate with them. Many personalities can be difficult to work with if they clash with your own, but Mount has helped teach strategies on how to work with each type of personality.
I hope to accomplish the other part of GOALS throughout the rest of my college career and beyond. I am a business major, and love to learn. This desire to learn has helped me begin to accomplish academic enrichment by not only taking rigorous classes in college but striving to learn outside information such as through other knowledge and through traveling. I have begun to accomplish global awareness through traveling to Nicaragua, Brazil, and Slovenia and emerging myself in diverse cultures.
To conclude, I am very excited to work towards accomplishing my goals throughout college and later in life. OSU has given me so many opportunities to do so, and I look forward to continuing to take advantage of those opportunities locally and globally.

Career
One job that I have had has been lifeguarding at Lakeside Chautauqua in Marblehead, Ohio. Here I was able to gain many valuable and transferable skills even though it was not in a business setting like my future career. One skill that is very valuable that I developed deeper was my communication skills. I was able to grow and communicate effectively and efficiently with my coworkers and with guests. I was also able to grow the skill of responsibility and how important it is to pay attention to details. This was the main thing I did as a lifeguard, watching all of the guests and maintaining safety.
I also worked as a nanny for three summers. In this position, I was able to learn a lot about patience and the importance of it when dealing with conflict. I also grew in the skill of responsibility in the fact that I was taking care of children that were not mine.
About Me
My name is Libby Skolnik. I am from a small town west of Cleveland called Vermilion. I grew up going to a small school, so going to Ohio State is a big change for me. I will be majoring in Business with an undecided specialty at this time at the Fisher College of Business. I chose to study business because I was looking for a major that had many career opportunities. I also love to organize, plan and manage, so I thought that it would be a great fit. I am also involved in the Mount Leadership Society Scholars Program. I became interested in Mount due to the involvement in leadership activities in high school. I was involved in Student Council, the President of my class for all four years, and also the President of an affiliate fund for the Community Foundations of Lorain County’s Youth Fund and sat on the Board of Directors for the Foundation. I am very excited for my first year here at THE Ohio State University!
