Week 6

Monday, August 10th, was the launch day for Rod’s. It went very well as sales were boosted. I had begun doing research on the instagram algorithm. Mosts posts get more traffic if you post once a day or every other day and are more active on the story rather than in the feed. Since the company had decided that they were not having a fall and winter catalog, they believed that I would need to make more posts on social media to accommodate. This is not the case. I asked them to let me posts less to provide data and analytics to prove that posting less will get us more.

I designed a social media plan and sent it out to my team and they all agreed to let me change the social media strategy. Each week with the new strategy I plan to record all analytics to send out to my team and show that the strategy will work!

Week 5

The Country Grace launch was on Monday, August 3rd. Although sales did not go as expected, the social media accounts gained almost 100 followers in a day. Our engagement & impressions were also up. I sent out an update email with analytics to all teams to hopefully gain their trust as well as show them that although the sales were not the greatest externally, we sometimes have to look internally to see some progress as well.

For the launch I went live on the story twice to bring more traffic towards the brand. I also was planning for the Rod’s Brand Launch for the following week so this week was extremely busy!

Thursday was my birthday and on Friday, August 7th, I was offered the full time position as Social Media Coordinator. I accepted the position and am super excited for the opportunities that this position will bring me.

Week 4

This week I have been working on preparing for a clothing launch for Country Grace, Rod’s exclusive line, on August 3rd. I have also been preparing for a Rod’s launch the following week on August 10th. Part of working in the fashion industry is using influencers. We use influencer for Country Grace & Rod’s. Influencers provide real like marketing images as well as advertising on their own social media. Having real life marketing material on our social pages gets us more engagement in the long run and in turn, more business. Per our contract the influencer also must post to their page, which is a part of the advertising budget for both Rod’s & Country Grace. A key factor for influencers is to get a contract signed by them and have the clothing you sent them & images back within two weeks. The contract they were using was outdated and had many loop holes so this week I had also been updating the contract to have a smoother outcome.

I handle some of the communication with the influencers and I was getting the marketing images back so they had to be sent out to the marketing and fashion team for approval of which images to use. Overall, the week has gone smoothly & I am excited for the launch on Monday!

Week 3

For week 3 I was officially on my own as the interim Social Media Coordinator, but still considered the intern for the position. Being thrown into the full position was scary, but it was something I determined to succeed at for a consideration for the full-time position later on.

While on my own I learned a lot about the daily things that go on in the social media world. I made a schedule for each morning to go over and review any posts in the past 24 hours, respond to any comments, messages and emails, and to review the scheduled posts for that day. I followed this routine each morning and then went on with the rest of my daily tasks.

I found it important to always do these things first and to follow the schedule you set to stay on task. Social Media can seem easy, but things can change in an instant and you can lose track of time easily. I don’t think I would have learned this if I hadn’t been on my own and thrown into the position the way I did.

Week 2

My second week at my internship was a full week with the current Social Media Coordinator. For the first two days of this week I was still learning the ropes of everything, but she did let me begin making posts for Rod’s and Country Grace socials. I began to schedule them on creator studio and learn how to write copy between the two.

Country Grace is more of a brand under Rods, but they are selling it as a boutique style for clothing and home.

Mid- week she began to let me take over her computer so I could learn to navigate each system. For the majority of the week, I was learning how to find content for each post. When I say there’s lot of files in the Bridge, there are A LOT of files.

This week I also learned how to transfer merchandise from warehouse to warehouse to send out to the influencers for each brand. Rods has about 3-4 influencers and Country Grace has 5. Sometimes they pay the influencer in products so you have to send it out a certain way. Most of the time the product is sent back so I learned how to make a FedEx shipping and return label.

Overall by the end of the week I had gotten the hang of things and was ready to be on my own. The social media coordinator is leaving for her new job at the end of the week and I will be on my own next week.

Below is a week of posts that I made for Country Grace. For each week of posts, I make what we call a flow. I send this out to the buyers, marketing team, and graphic designers for approval. Once approved I build the posts and schedule them on Creator Studio

Week 1

The first week of my internship was 3 days beginning on July 6th. This week was more of an orientation. I learned the ins and outs of their systems. At Rod’s to store everything they use Adobe Bridge. I can tell the hardest part of this internship is going to be finding content to post, because of how hard the Bridge is to navigate. It will definitely be a learning experience.

I learned about hoot-suite, creator studio and many of the programs that they use for social media. I believe I will use creator studio as it is easier to navigate and easier to edit things once they are published. Learning the ropes this week was definitely intimidating, but I am excited to see where this internship will take me in the long run.

Below are some of the graphics I made for the first three days of my internship.
