8/11-8/16

This week I went to two vendor fairs. The first one on Tuesday at Hayes High School was a big success and we had a lot of teachers and people excited for the fair. We picked three winners in our giveaway because we had so many people enter. The second one on Wednesday at Olentangy was not as successful as the day before. A lot of people didn’t even know that there was a fair in Delaware County. We picked one winner in our giveaway and gave out all of our BOGO coupons to hopefully get people to the fair. We are one month away from the fair so I have been making posts on our social media accounts daily about events going on during the fair. We are also in the works to putting out 5 Facebook advertisements on the fair and different events going on during the fair and should have them out by the end of the day today. I have also been making signs for the arts and crafts building for winners in each class to be posted in the building after they are judged. Things are getting pretty hectic in the office, but we are all excited for the fair to finally be here! Today is my last day of a full week in the office. Classes start next week so I will only be in the office one day a week starting next week. I will be working on some things while I am at school and in the office on Fridays because I do not have class that day.

8/5-8/9

This past week I worked on some things for some vendor fairs we are going to next week. They are for teachers in Delaware County. We will be going to Delaware Hayes High School and Olentangy Liberty High School. I made BOGO coupons and only printed out so many. During the fair the people at the gate will be collecting them to see how many people actually use and where they came from. Each event I go to, to promote the fair the coupons have a code on the back for that specific event. I also made a flyer this week about the Window Decorating Contest and handed them out to all the businesses downtown to get more participation in the contest. Six businesses registered while I was handing out flyers!

7/29 -8/2

This week I banded weekly passes together for all vendors so they were available when the vendors came in to get them. We also wrote out all the passes and permits to camper spot holders. I will be attending a vendor fair called First Friday. It happens the first Friday of every month. It is in downtown Delaware. I had been emailing with fair board members all week to help me with the event. Our fair books and brochures came in so I was able to take them with me to the event. I printed off more senior day postcards and business cards for the event. The event went well and we ran out of fair books and brochures and had a lot of people ask about how to enter in open shows during the fair which is really exciting because getting our open class show numbers up was a goal this year. We had so many people come to sign up for free tickets that we picked three winners!

7/22-7/26

This week was fairly slow. We started printing invoices and mailing labels to send out fair passes, camping permits and Little Brown Jug tickets. The Little Brown Jug is a world famous harness race that is the week of the Delaware County Fair. Although all of our tickets, passes, and permits were going to have a late delivery we wanted to try and get ahead of the game for when they did get here. There was a big flower sale and food truck and vendor fair on Saturday and Sunday. I promoted this at the beginning of the week on Monday and then a reminder promotion on Friday before the event. The flower sale is held by Delaware Master Gardeners and whatever is left from the sale is donated to the fair to plant on the grounds. So next week, on Monday, we will be planted those flowers all over the grounds.

Week 7/15 – 7/19

Things in the fair office are starting to pick up. Sunday the 14th was the two month out mark for the fair. I made a post about events that would be happening and vendors that would be there on that day and then continued doing this until the 21st. We had not yet received our fair books with the full schedule in it so doing this lets people on social media know some of the things that will be going on during the fair. The fair also participated in the Delaware Farm Tour. The Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District puts on the event with local farms throughout Delaware. Our booth was to be located at an orchard and vineyard. Early in the week I had prepared a short schedule on a half sheet with information on the fair to hand out at the Farm Tour. We were also doing a give away for free passes at the fair. The Farm Tour was on the 20th and it went fairly well. It was one of the hotter days of the summer and there was an extreme heat advisory so there was not as many people as they hoped.

Week 7/8- 7/12

This week I set up a library display at the local library to promote the fair. There are events next weekend on the 20th & 21st which I promoted on our Facebook & Instagram pages. We are two months out from the fair on July 14th. I began working on two month out posts at the beginning of the week so that they will be ready to post every day next week. My boss asked me to proof the fair schedule for the fair book for the last time so I proofed the schedule for the week twice and sent her the corrections. I had a meeting on Friday for the Delaware Farm Tour hosted by The Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District. The Farm Tour is on July 20th. There are 4 local farms that people can come visit to learn more about their sector of the agriculture industry. We are going to be at one of the farm stops with a booth promoting the fair and also making make & take buckeye zipper pulls.

Week 7/1-7/5

This week I promoted an event we have on the grounds in two weeks. There is a handmade craft show going on and the person in charge of it sent me a picture to post to our instagram and facebook to promote the show. I totalled up the amount of how much each advertisement would cost for the fair to put on Facebook. We have the display case at the local library next week to promote the fair and the events we have going on so I made a general flyer for the fair and a flyer to promote The Little Brown Jug Harness Race. The Jug is a very popular harness race that happens during the fair each year. People come from different countries just to see it. They also bet on the horses from the other side of the world because of the live broadcast of the race. I printed off some pictures from previous fairs to put in the display case. I am starting to put together some things for the window decorating contest in downtown Delaware. Next week I will also be registering for Main Street Delaware’s First Friday event. We will be setting up a booth in August on the first Friday of the month to promote the fair and give away some free things.

Week 6/25-6/28

Because I worked 6 days straight, my boss was generous enough to give me the day off on Monday. My boss gave me the task of creating Facebook advertisements for the fair. I created advertisements for The Little Brown Jug Harness Race, the two bands that are performing, the events for the motorsports track and a general ad for the dates of the fair. I also created a Facebook and Instagram post for Senior Citizens Day and for businesses to contact us to become a vendor for senior citizens day. I have been using Canva to create advertisements and pictures to post for our social media outlets. It is easy to use, has great, high-resolution pictures, and wide-range of templates to use for the type of post you are looking to create. We have also been getting a lot of responses and feedback when posting the pictures.

Week 6/17-6/22

Each day up until the 21st I made posts about what was going on each day during the fair, as stated last week. On the 18th, we had Riverview FFA from Florida come visit and tour our grounds. Sandy and I showed them the race track and horse barns. They even got to pet some of the horses. I got to handout some of the business cards I made and some of the students followed our Instagram and Facebook. We had some of our fair board memebers come and speak on what their role is for the fair. The students were very interested in the harness racing side of things and asked lots of questions on how it works, The Little Brown Jug Harness Race, and how betting on the horses worked. On the 19th, we had a Senior Citizens Day at the fair meeting with Source Point, Delaware County Country Club representative and a representative from a local assisted living home. We discussed what activities we would do for the seniors during that day, what sponsors we had and ones we needed to get. We also went over the flyers, postcard, and vendor application I had made for Senior Citizen Day. I made note that I needed to add where the event would be hosted on the grounds on the flyer and postcard.

On Thursday the 20th, the qualifier races for the Delaware County Fair harness races were going on. The qualifiers are open to the public so I made a post that the races were going on and the grandstands were open for seating. Friday and Saturday we were non-profit vendors at the Powell Festival in Powell, Ohio. I had made a table display with pictures of the fair and flyers I had made of events going on during the fair. Throughout the week I had been drilling holes in buckeyes so we could do make & take buckeye zipper pulls for kids that came up to our booth. We also did a free raffle to win 4 free tickets to the fair. I had also made a buy one get one free coupon for people to take when they came to the fair. I posted on our social media on Friday that we would be at the festival and to stop buy to win some free tickets and see the rabbit, A guy that sells local 4-H rabbits lent us a rabbit for kids to look at and pet when they came up to our booth. The rabbit was a success and drew a lot of kids and families into our booth to see the dates and upcoming events. We had HOT, perfect weather both days.

Week 6/11-6/14

The week prior I was on vacation in North Carolina and took Monday off to get my car fixed and to recuperate for the work week. I posted to our Facebook and Instagram pages for a reminder of a PAS State Qualifying show for horses on Saturday June 15th and 16th. The chicken eggs started peeping through on Tuesday and most of the eggs were hatched by the end of the week. By Thursday we had 5 chicks. I made a post with a cool video of one of the chicks hatching out of the eggs on our Facebook page. We had a very low hatch rate as we had 16 eggs and only 7 of them hatched. I sent an email to Meyer hatchery asking if they have ever had this happen and what we can do to get a better hatch rate the next time around. The 14th is the three month mark to the beginning of the Delaware County Fair. Each day from June 14th to June 21st (the dates of our fair in September 14-21) I made posts about some events going on that day and 4-H and FFA shows going on during each day and going on throughout the week. We had a lot of responses and shares each day. Next month on July 14th-21st I will be posting more things going on each day for the three month out mark.

Here are some pictures of the cute baby chicks and some of the posts I will be posting for the three month out junior fair shows. The pictures created for the junior fair shows were created using Canva. I’ve found Canva to be very beneficial and easy to use to make posts for social media. And the best part about it is, it’s FREE!
