Sino-US military relations

Let's Get Real About US Military 'Dominance' - Defense One

Beijing’s Perspective: China views military-to-military exchanges as reflective of the overall bilater

al political relationship. When the political relationship is strong, it creates a conducive environment for expanding military contacts. However, when the political relationship deteriorates, military exchanges may be curtailed or suspended, often as a form of protest or retaliation against perceived US actions detrimental to Chinese interests. These actions may include arms sales to Taiwan and US positions on territorial disputes in the East and South China Seas( Yuan Jingdong 2017).

Washington’s perspective: As inferred from the passage, includes a combination of cooperation with China in certain areas of military relations, a regional strategy focused on the Asia-Pacific, concerns about China’s territorial disputes, and the recognition of the importance of stable military ties with China for overall bilateral relations.

U.S.-China Bilateral Economic RelationsThe Fed - Did the U.S. Bilateral Goods Deficit With China Increase or Decrease During the US-China Trade Conflict?

Importance of Economic Relationship: The economic relationship between the US and China has become crucial, with their economies deeply intertwined. Over the past two decades, strong political leadership and support from the American business community have fostered substantial growth in trade and investment between the two countries(Amy P. Celico 2013). However, the two-year trade war has also destroyed many industries in both countries, including the plummeting export volume of U.S. agricultural products and soybeans, China’s manufacturing GDP has dropped sharply by 15%, and the U.S. dollar exchange rate has continued to fall. From this, we can see that Sino-U.S. relations have a significant impact on the world.

Growing Trade Imbalance: Despite the expansion of economic ties, there has been a persistent trade imbalance between the US and China. The economic relationship has also become more contentious, with disagreements over the rules governing access to each other’s economies. The main reason is that China’s manufacturing industry has grown exponentially. The United States has often relied on Chinese manufacturing, destroying its local manufacturing system, while China has been subject to the high-end technology industries of the United States.

Post-Financial Crisis Opportunities: After China acceded to the World Trade Organization (WTO), American manufacturers found China to be an attractive destination due to lowered barriers and low-cost labour. Additionally, in the aftermath of the global financial crisis, China’s commitment to reform and policies encouraging consumer spending and investment presented opportunities for US companies.

Struggles Over Trade Principles: While efforts have been made to address concerns through dialogues like the Strategic and Economic Dialogue and the G20, the US and China, as major drivers of global growth, continue to grapple with differences in principles and rules related to economic integration and trade promotion. This has led to the rise of protectionist voices in both countries.

In summary, the US-China economic relationship is very important, any move will cause the world economy to enter recession or growth. We all know that growth will bring happiness in life, and people can pursue the jobs they want or a better life, while a recession will cause millions of people to lose their jobs. Investment has dropped sharply, development in various fields has lagged, and society is unstable.  Challenges arising from trade imbalances and shifting global economic dynamics. Hence both countries must find common ground on contentious economic issues to promote mutual benefit.
